I don’t see how the two can really be compared. V10 v. Flat 6, a decade plus of development, and a factor of 4 in price.
Lots of great engines around, from stuff you can get from a junk yard for $250 (try breaking a 4.0 HO Jeep engine) to stuff that takes $250k to touch (4 Cam Carrera engine).
And some pretty high end and high tech engines are available for not crazy money, frankly cheap. Like a V10? How about an S85 BMW (just swap rod bearings with every serp belt change), older V12 mercs and v12 BMWs are still reasonable too.
To me, the true test of an engine is one of feel, power, sound, and longevity. Hopefully, the 991.2 4.0 demonstrates reliability on par with some of the great flat 6 Porsche engines (the pre-variorum 993 3.6 being my favorite). Maybe mooty will do it, but I don’t see anyone driving a CGT enough to really get a thorough test.
Personally, I would love a CGT, but I know I would not drive it enough as it is just not practical enough for me (and I have a very low level of practicality required).

Ha, I know this. AP's wife trained him well, that is what...
Honey, who is the prettiest?
"You, hands down, the most beautiful wife ever," said Preuninger.
Even counting Heidi Klum?
"That would be a close second" Preuninger says with a smile. "Your beauty is absolutely mind-boggling"
The key is not to hesitate for even a sec, so you keep practicing till muscle memory takes over.

It's always fun to debate what is the "GOAT." But, as is the case in the NFL, you can compare numbers - Brady did this, Manning did that, Unitas did this, Montana did that - but at the end of the day, it comes down to personal preference and one's interpretation of the hard data. I respect AP's opinion but I also realize that he is no fool and he is expected to make the latest and greatest sound like the best thing since sex. I have a GT3T on the way, so naturally, I am pleased to hear his comments, but I take them with a rather sizable grain of salt.

Well Prun is perhaps a least acknowledging that the .2 GT3 motor is superior to the R motor. I am not suggesting the GT3 is superior to the R - that is in the eye of the beholder BUT the engine is an evolutionary step forward.

The "best" engine ever is a open statement that you can combine a lot of factors: reliable power, oiling, engineering, ect.
If you read further than the HP and Nurbring lap times....the 991.2 motor is a huge leap in "street car" engine technology over the 991.1 and anything else Porsche has built. The oiling in the crankcase is finally something to brag about (even over a Metzger). I was considering a 991.1 GT3RS...until I read in depth about the internal changes to the crankcase, oiling ect.....the delta in cost is worth a more robust engine
Im 500 miles into my new car, drive it every day.....and I think the engine is magic (as well as the gearbox) in bone stock form....with a bone stock exhaust
And ive driven a Carerra GT (on slicks at the track at speed), 430 SCUD, 500 ect...they are cool exotic toys.....that would implode at 1/4 the time out of the new 991.2 engine
I even still own my 997.2 3.8 RS....the car is very analog....but from an engineering standpoint the 991.2 GT3 is quite an achievement over the old car
U want awesome sound...race a 73 RSR, 3.0L with close to 400 HP on open exhaust...nothing better.....but you are $30K deep in a rebuild at 20 hours if it doesn't self destruct before that
North of 500 HP out of a NA flat 6 with low end torque, rated for 100 hour low cost rebuilds at race use....is honestly amazing in race car engines....and Porsche nailed it

I can tell you where I was and what I was doing the first time I heard a CGT motor at full song. Sent goose bumps down my spine. Subsequent rides in the car only solidified the impression.
I love the GT3 flat 6 in all iterations. I've driven them all. Can't say any including the 991.2 motor have had any impact beyond "that sounds/feels great".
I'm with mooty; it isn't about what's on paper but rather how it makes me feel. CGT all day long and twice on Sundays.
