Would you worry about buying a brand new car that has sat for 3 years?
I am looking at this gorgeous 911R from John at PNH. I have a 2016 GTS currently with 10,500 miles on it. I don't have a ton of miles on mine, but I can't imagine it having sat for the last 3yrs after being newly constructed. Would you worry about fluids, gas in the tank, tire life or rodents chewing on the wires where it sat. Is it reasonable to demand to know where the car has been for the last few yrs? I guess the bottom line is how old is safe to buy new?

Of course I’d buy it. Just have the car checked out, by a qualified technician, like any other purchase.

That car was at the St. Louis store before Houston (likely in showroom). In my experience with Indigo (PNH and Porsche St. Louis) (1) they move the cars around periodically, so it would get started, etc.; (2) if there are any issues with the car, they'll address. I think the modern 911s can sit for longer without issues. If it was an older one, I'd be more concerned (but see point (2)). The St. Louis guys probably know the story on the car before it came to Houston (or Tino will).
I'd call Mike Yale (Service Director) and ask him what he thinks. He's a straight shooter and will tell you if you should have any concerns.
I saw that car today, it looks awesome.

I would smell the gas, drain/pump if at all suspect (not sure how to do that on a 991), if not fill with new, I would do an oil change, maybe a brake fluid change, but no, would not bother me. Tires should be more than fine if sitting indoors, even outside, get them hot and the flat spots will go away. 3 years is nothing. I would not pay a premium for a no miles new car as I like drivers so unless you plan to keep it no miles, I would save a few pennies and find one that has been driven. However, assuming price is acceptable, no issues from my perspective with sitting for a few years.
Non-Porsche story: To that end, and I know this is about as far as far away as possible from a no miles 911R, but my gf said she wanted a Jeep so I went on craigslist and found a 27 year old Jeep YJ with nearly 200k miles that had been sitting for 5 plus years. Forked over the $1500 asking price because it was an auto Sahara with hardtop and AC, no ABS, but as a 91 plus the 4.0 high output with EFI (desirable spec, the 911R of YJs if you will ) and had no frame rust (try finding a Jeep around here with a good frame — I have had enough fun doing chassis replacements on Land Rovers to save that for defenders which are worth 20x what the Jeep is). Other than corrosion repair related items such as brake lines and some body panel welding (corrosion is not applicable to your situation I should think), fresh fluids and a battery and it was fine and has been giving good service. I did it because I wanted a reasonably “quick” project that would make someone I care about happy. I know this story confirms I am nuts (I could have just bought a new JL or preowned JK or something) but my point is that, while it is sub-optimal for cars to sit and I prefer them to be driven regularly, it is not a big deal in most instances if they do sit, especially as the car will be in warranty and you bring it current on service.

If the car really sat for 3 years just make sure the car is thoroughly inspected, including for any damage caused by mice. I doubt any damage occured but i would check for it.

Definitely change tires because of possible dry rot, and a must if the car will be driven at any high speeds.
