GA coming after MT plate owners
#121
Virginia started last year I think. They have been sending people to cars and coffee and other places to take pics of vin's with out of state plates. They also have a tattletale tale line/e-mail and as someone else mentioned, jealous/angry neighbors or other folks could do it. Unfortunately, some get off on other peoples misery. The funny thing I've noticed in my area is the guys with the most money nicest cars tend do it more than the moderately successful individuals. The way I look at it, paying and doing stuff the right way is worth it just for peace of mind. Gotta pay to play!

Make sure you know how the word “loophole” is being used before you agree to any particular tax position.

Sorry, but that’s a blanket rationalization to cheat and can lead you into a tax fraud case. The minute YOU decide how much to pay irrespective of tax laws, you’re not on safe ground.

A friend of mine uses an LLC/Montana Plates for self preservation for his family(young kids), he just doesn't want to be targeted for bringing exotics to CC or any other event. I know some use it as a tax loop hole but I don't believe that is the case for everyone as a whole.

Once dealerships stop registering cars with local insurance to a Montana registration this will stop. Nothing against those who do it. If they are willing to take the risk, that is up to them. I definitely wouldn't want to get charged for felony tax evasion, which it sounds like they will eventually do. If you can afford to buy a 300k car, you can afford to pay some taxes.

I think its unfortunate that everyone with a MT plate (in GA in particular) is now being viewed as being guilty of tax fraud. There is a big distinction between people who have property and/or operate profitable businesses in MT, and the people who just setup a LLC specifically for avoiding automotive sales tax.

Good luck trying to argue with IRS that your deductible lease payment for a McLaren and Lambo is an "ordinary and necessary" and a reasonable business expense. Though I imagine there could be a few occupations that pass muster.

4K annual registration. Might bee better to NOT register the car and take the no registration ticket, here in NV its less than 100$ and a NON moving violation ( no points on DL ) The delta would be around 40 tickets per year, no cheating on taxes, just the traffic violation of unregistered vehicle. Of course you insure the car, no insurance is a $1,000 dollar fine and would be crazy. Just putting the idea out there

Please pay your taxes, it’s how teachers and politicians get paid!!! LoL!!!
Love this string!!! ...and yep, I pay dearly on annual personal property taxes for my cars...but I knew that going in and was an expense factored in. JB

Overall though, Nevada residents are a pretty fortunate group tax-wise. Californians, not so much.
