Porsche Austin / "Stealership"
 

So, this is a first for me and is another one for the “stealership” record.

As you may know I bought my “used” GT3 a few weeks ago. Ryan, from DDW, has been fantastic and is committed to do right by me. However, I can not say the same about Porsche Austin and their used sales manager (Mykel Walker). The car was supposed to come with clear-bra for the whole front. However, a few days after delivery of the car to me in Scottsdale I noticed two panels were missing – the hood and the driver’s side upper headlight/around the wheels. Ask me how I know it? While I was washing the car, by hand, I noticed a little chip in the hood... upon further inspection "ta-da" --- bizarre! The front bumpers and the passenger side of the car + the fuel lid all came with the clear-bra… lousy job, since the borders were peeling… but the clear bra was installed. I never see such a half-a** job... who "forgets" to do all the panels anyway? We have contacted Porsche Austin’s used car manager (Mykel Walker) and in his words were “I don’t’ have profit” to make it right… He did say he was going to work something out but he has not been forthcoming ... yet. The point is simple: the clear-bra was paid for and P. Austin is unwilling to delivery on what they were paid. We are taking this to PCNA if not resolved quickly… but I wanted to register and share my dissatisfaction with the pettiness and lack of professionalism… it’s a $ 1000 cost… Ryan will eat it… but it’s just not right nor fair. I also talked about this with our local dealer Porsche North Scottsdale and they also can not believe and never saw something like this. Anyway, we are going forward with fixing their job and installing the missing panels. The car is outstanding... but P. Austin should up their game and at least comply with their commitments.

Update 10/19/18: I received confirmation that P. Austin is making it right and are covering the costs associated w/ the missing PPF panels to Ryan. I know it took more effort than necessary, but at the end I wanted to give them credit for sticking to the agreement and making up for it. So, thank you Porsche Austin and Mykel Walker for making it right to Ryan.

As I said before, all I did was to share this story with my fellow RLs. Consider Ryan/DDW next time you are looking for some cool car (DDW Instagram) - Ryan/DDW is not a broker, but actually an independent dealer. He made this deal possible and is the only reason this issue was not an ordeal for me. Ryan has been taking care of everything from procuring the car, taking the trade and funding the deal and is the only one interacting with the dealer. He also arranged for a top notch service here in North Scottsdale to complete the PPF work. It's the place where he takes his cars for full wrap (GT3 RS + GT3 + etc...) so all is top notch as it should and one would expect.

I also wanted to appreciate my fellow RLs for sharing their stories here and actively providing feedback and participating in the discussions.

How does anyone forget to PPF the hood? And only do one fender? That's unacceptable. Your frustration is justified. Do you have anything in writing that said they would do the PPF and on which panels?

Yes, all documented in writing... this is surreal.

Who's Ryan and what's his role in this transaction? Some kind of broker? Just curious.

Correct. Ryan from DDW Partners... Upstanding guy to do business with... he loves cars and knows a lot about Porsches.... and no BS... looking him up if you need help. He is making it right... but he really shouldn't need to... who is not making it right (at least presently) in the dealer. I'll be happy to report back if and update the record should we come to a proper resolution w/ the dealer.

I don't know him and I never dealt with a broker, but if that happened to me I would consider it 100% the broker's problem to sort out something like that. He's got the relationship, it should be his beef with the dealer, not yours, no?

Oh... he is totally handling that with the dealer... and he is covering it for me. I am glad that Ryan is involved, otherwise I would be the one to deal with all this nonsense... I don't have time nor patience for that. With that said, it won't be fair if the dealer leaves him hanging... and the best I can do is to share this experience with my fellow RLs.

Why would one use a broker to purchase a pre-owned car at a Porsche dealer?

Well, several reasons and I am happy to discuss off-line with you, but for example to deal with stuff like this.

I think most members on this board would echo my comments that Porsche Austin is pretty bad. I send my cars to Dallas/ft worth to be worked on as opposed to dealing with the dealer 5 miles away.

Anyway, thanks for sharing the story and good luck with getting everything sorted out. I'm still in shock at how many terrible dealer experiences buyers are having these days.

Never trust a dealer getting PPF done. Ryan should know that :)

never use any dealer for PPF services. they sub out to whoever is convenient, with no prep work whatsoever. Dont know what kind of film as well, as each installer carry their own. Better leave this to a specialist, lesson learned for the future :(

I still can not understand how one forgets to do the hood and one of the fenders... it's a first.

I think there's a reference to it being Kodak film... not totally sure. But your point is valid... with that said, it was convenient to do given that I was going to take the car on a road trip a couple of days after delivery... which I did... and which was awesome... except for the little chip in the hood and the subsequent findings about the incomplete job.
