10 yr/120K miles engine warranty question
We are all familiar with the above Porsche warranty (thanks Rob), however my question is this. Given my first in-service date, my ‘extended engine warranty’ runs until 2026. If I blow my engine in 2024 and need a new one, what replacement engine should I expect to get? Is it still conceivable that Porsche would still be manufacturing the 3.8L NA 991.1 engine or would I get the new 4.0L NA engine? Anyone have any idea what we 991.1 owners should reasonably expect from Porsche?

Manufacturers generally have enough parts on hand or within the supply channel for a bare minimum of a decade after production ends. That will mean 202 for the 991.1 GT3. While I haven’t worked directly with PAg, I am sure that given their boast of 70%+ of all cars ever produced by the brand still being on the road, they have planned well beyond a decade after production ends. You won’t be getting a free 4.0.

And the 4.0 would never run with your car's current brain/DME. They are not plug & play.

I am sure they will have 3.8L engines waiting. They know exactly when the extended warranty ends, and will stock engines to meet demand.

Thanks, it makes sense that Porsche would plan for enough 3.8L engines to meet possible warranty demands through 2026!

Keep in mind you would most likely get a remanufactured engine. That's not a bad thing, Porsche doesn't cut corners when they refurb an engine.
A few years ago you could still buy a 993 remanufactured engine. Not sure if they are still available or not.

I had a Viper engine replaced under warranty with an Arrow Racing remanufactured engine.....it was better than the original from the factory

Good to know. I may not keep the car for that long, but the thought of possibly getting a new and improved engine 5-to-6 years from now is definitely a consideration for keeping a car that currently sees some track duty.
