GT3 Touring vs. 997 RS 4.0

As others said it was fun to watch but painful at the same time.
I agree that the 4.0 is better than just about anything...but it's not better than a CGT...it's just not. It's the pinnacle of 911s...CGT is the pinnacle of Porsche.

Haven't really noticed any lag in my Touring, and just spent the weekend thrashing it at Smokies GT (cherohala skyway, tail of the dragon, wayah rd, etc. multiple times), easily keeping up with .1 and .2 GT3 RS's and a GT2 RS, all being driven by hooligans. I'm not saying it's a match for them, especially when driven expertly, but I didn't feel outgunned in any way.
Also, on the torque comments, well I've never had the pleasure of driving a 997 GT3 RS 4.0, but the Touring has a very noticbly more low end torque than my .1 GT3 did. I found that I could keep up well in 3rd without needing to downshift to 2nd gear on very tight twisty roads except on all but the tightest uphill hairpins. Generally keeping engine between 3,000-6,000 rpm.
The comments in the video about comfort are true. Touring is surprisingly comfortable and compliant, even with the harder sport mode suspension engaged. Never jittery or crash-y, just firm and always "rubbery". Noticibly more compliant than even the .1 GT3, though again I cannot speak to comparisons with the 997 GT3 RS 4.0 having never driven one.
Also have to agree about the comments on the clutch. Touring clutch feels surprisingly light. Much lighter than GT4, which I used to own and which I swapped cars with another owner briefly last weekend for a refresher comparo. In the GT4, the same roads following the same hooligan drivers in RS's were downright terrifying to try to keep up with. Constantly downshifting to 2nd to get out of corners, having to work way harder to steer around the corners, etc. Frankly, the GT3 Touring makes you look and feel like a hero. The power, torque, grip, brakes, and blissfully effective steering (no doubt thanks to the 4-wheel steering) really are top notch.

It's human nature to prefer your own "special" car over someone else's. I'm not saying the 997 RS is not better - it very well may be - but I take this review with a grain of salt. There can't help but be reviewer bias. I would be interested to hear more opinions from those lucky drivers who have had a chance to drive/own both.

One big difference for me is the clutch/shifter between the two cars.

entertaining for sure
I have both cars
he said 997 had more torque, you got to be kidding. 4.0 is limp below 7000rpm. there is no torque. and I love my 4.0
shifter in 997 , what a fkg POS. I put up with it only b/c it's a 4.0. It sucks and I love my 4.0
new touring shifts better
but it aint 997 4.0
u can't describe it, u have to drive it...
when she or you climax, you will GET it... or NOT.
reclaim is right
4.0 is good but it is not CGT, I am afraid. and did I say I love my 4.0

New shifters Porsche is putting out feel amazingly good imo. Clutch, not so much.
The two cars are SO SO different. The 991 clearly BETTER car in almost every way. How could it not be? Which one most of us would rather have, money-no-object?: 7-4.0 is gonna win that game more often than not. But NOT against a CGT.

Clearly this guy is no expert as he did get some obvious things wrong. But the production quality of the video was good imo. Pretty professional. That RS 4.0 looks amazing in a few of those shots. I have watched Chris Harris' last drive video about 20 times, so it is good to have more RS 4.0 content! I hope he makes more.

the 997 4.0 is the best NA manual RS
the touring has 8 years of tire development and more electronic gizmos including rear steering
for me the "i'm incognito" approach of a touring is sort of pointless. i mean- it's SO LOUD YOU ARE NOT HIDING other than in a parking lot.
