Default What are the parts that are different in the RS motor over the GT3 motor

We can see that it is really producing at least 20 hp more than the GT3 as specified by Porsche. What are the actual part differences between the two motors or is it 'just a tune'. Those with PET can you dig in and let us know what you find?

Thanks!

As far as I know, zero. Only ECU programming.

Supposedly, there are many part number differences but I’ve never seen a single actual difference of an internal component, besides the BMC air filters.

I don’t have access to the -2 RS PET yet- very interested to understand the same question.

Not really part of the engine (not included with a crate engine) and not responsible for extra power when standing still (how the 520hp is measured). Just when traveling very fast...

I'd love to see a dyno with a GT3 and RS back to back.

Pretty sure it was already documented that it's due to the increased intake and cooling, exhaust and tune. Engine itself is roughly identical.

Thanks for the answers guys. If it's just breathing and exhaust and tune then it should be easily achieved by aftermarket on the standard GT3 as well. Well, except for the firmware tuning which in recent years has been very difficult as the ECU's are increasingly sophisticated.

Another reason for asking is to cut the to facts rather than all the hype posts with drag races etc. I'm not saying the drag races are hype, but they don't answer the 'why' - they just demonstrate there is a difference. I agree a back to back dyno between the two would also be nice as a measure as it is a more controlled condition than a drag race.

On ED, you're feeling like the GT3 can't get any better!
I too wonder about the huge price difference on the RS over the GT3 with such close power levels

Because Porsche Has Low Profit Margins On GT Models

Some guys think it's worth an additional $50K ADM too.

RS uses Unobtanium (from Pandora) where Titanium is used in the GT3. Gives you an extra 20 bhp alone.

In the Avatar sequels we learn how Porsche sources environmentally conscious Unobtanium.

Just to throw it out there... are we sure those side scoops are really grabbing more air at speed than the rear scoops on the GT3?

I don't think the price difference has anything at all to do with engine differences. There's a bunch of expensive carbon fibre bits and the wider Turbo body and more expensive wheels and tires on the RS. That, with a generous helping of prestige, is where the money goes.

Those side scoops on the RS are all part of the Aero system. At a top rate of over 900 pounds of downforce at rear of car, would say the system as a hole produces what the GT3 cannot. I believe the new GT3 are operating at a 1/3 of the RS downforce. So yes those side scoops do their job
