Default Delicate Decision

My dealership received a .2 3RS WP I am interested in. I already have a .2 3RS on order but unfortunately, could not lock the order before the package went on stop sale.

I am really tempted to pick the VIP flip Weissach and back out of my order but concerned about how that will affect my relationship with the dealership (pre-owned department selling the WP, new department got me the allocation) and with Porsche for future allocations.

Both my order and this are over sticker, of course.

What would you guys do?

Talk to the dealer and tell them exactly what you posted above and then decide.

I already have. From my dealer's thoughts seemed more concerned with how it may affect my relationship with the new sales department than Porsche. Neither is good as I like the dealership a lot.

At the same time, I'd rather get the car I want. Mega first world problem haha

Just go with the WP that the dealership has as you intended to get it anyway?

I'm leaning towards doing that. Just concerned about them being less inclined to get me allocations in the future and my dealer mentioned the high ups wouldn't be thrilled with me backing out of my order.

Buy both and flip the second one. Would that make them happier?

Are they as concerned with your relationship with them? I think there is a disconnect with these Porsche dealerships in that they can sell these cars 10x over all day - for now. And then as soon as it stops or slows down the roles reverse, remember this is a cyclical business and the party isnt going to last forever.

Do what you want and whats in your best interest and guess what, if they want your future business they'll be fine.

997 GT3 RS's - do we recall how those were when new compared to this BS going on with the current market??

Are we buying cars or cultivating relationships? Sad that we even need to ask the question.

Ill be the first to admit I got caught up in dealer games. I want to be loyal. I want to stick with my guys and do whatever I can to build up that relationship. Except the first chance they get to make a better deal, they will cut you off.

Do whats best for you. If you want weissach- get the Weissach. If the dealer gets pissed, oh well. Its not like there aren't a 100 dealers and 5 other car brands that you can go get. The moment you get emotional- when buying a car, when buying real estate, in anything, you lose.

Right now we have a record economy, all these dealers are sitting fat and happy. Doing whatever they want. When the economic downturn comes, and it will, lets see how smug some of these people are. There will be cars littering the sidewalk and you will have your choice.

Today- its a sellers market and the dealers have the upper hand. But you dont have to play that game. Just buy what you want and be happy. Let the chips fall where they may.

Does the GM not run the whole dealership? That’s the only relationship that matters. Speak with him if you are concerned.

I know some dealer run new and pre owned very separately, but I doubt if you talk to the GM it would be an issue. And I am sure they can find someone to buy your incoming. That being said, I don’t think WP is worth it unless that car is specced very close to how you would want.

+1, took the words out of my mouth.
Get what you want, number one priority, not the dealers

Dealers are cut throat, expect the "relationship they are building" to be one way. I'd start quietly offering the later arriving one around. Get buyers lined up before it arrives. I learned the hard way with my GT4, hesitate and hold a bit longer and you give up $20k

Sellers market on new - look at the 991.1 RS's that are all pre-owned; buyers market all day on those.

Good insights though and definitely agree that it'll be good for consumers when things change.
