IMPORTANT INFO REGARDING CENTRELOCKS & SAFETY

Attached as a 20 page doc regarding Centre Locks. PROPER PROCEDURE.
Okay, so i was at my Indy (Porsche only specialists with their own race cars etc, very professional)
They were talking to me about Centre Locks, and how delicate they can be.
As a brief- The following applies to the wheel hub: The wheel hub must always be replaced if the loosening torque of the relevant central bolt is less than 400 Nm (296 ftlb.) or if the driving pins can be turned by hand. It really
doesn't matter how the wheel hub looks in this case.
Prerequisite: The central bolt was originally tightened to the prescribed tightening torque and the vehicle has since been driven.
Its very informative as how to check and inspect your hubs, and if they need to be replaced. Scary to think if it has been tightened to LESS than 400nm, thats it, it all needs to be replaced.
Im going to post this in all sections of cars that have centre locks.
Enjoy!

Thanks! Wow. So if the 5 little driving pins spin by hand, you’re supposed to replace the entire wheel hub?? I wonder why...
As for the loosening torque, it sounds more like if you tightened it properly but it somehow loosened up fo the point where it took less than the 296 ft-lbs to remove it, then there is a hub problem.

Thanks for the link; much appreciated. The center locks look very good on my 991.2 GTS, but I’m afraid it will be more expensive than normal 5-lug wheels in the long run. That document gives a few good hints on what to look for.

This is very useful.
My RS is now at 10000mls and at my last service the head mechanic suggested I should consider changing not only the center locks but also my wheels. He showed me I have wear as described on p8. Really another absurd byproduct of the center locks as I have never before heard of having to change wheels on previous GT models after 10k. Since I don’t know of anyone who has actually done that I hope it’s Porsche being over cautious and also that the wheels could be repaired rather than completely replaced.
Keen to hear of thoughts on here about this.

No purpose? It's sold to us like a cool-looking feature, but first and foremost, from what it seems they are a great source of captive after-sales income for Porsche. That’s likely the main purpose they serve. And we’re stuck with them

I thought i would revive this thread for the newer people on the board, as its about a year old now.
Its really good and relevant info.
Seen as though i also last night had my wheels off, i referred to this document again myself to refresh my memory.
