GT3 burns at Nürburgring - Viewer Discretion Advised!
GT3 at Nürburgring sprang an oil leak and caught on fire. Apparently, the car was "not from Germany".
Tragic. Heartwrenching. Nauseating. But, pretty cool how the car burns and pops and bangs - it doesn't want to die.

The driver was with a group of friends touring tracks in the area. I met someone in their group at spa a few days later. There was no crash. Just fire. Sometime similar happened to someone at Laguna a few months ago. That was from an oil leak. I'm assuming the same happened with this car.
In my 2015 991.1 GT3, about 40-50 track days into ownership, I noticed oil on the ground. After removing the panel, I discovered the source was from the oil cooler. I took it into the dealer and the cooler was replaced. I believe the oil cooler is the source of these fires. Once the leak is bad enough it gets on the catalytic converter and a fire starts.
Those of us with a lot of usage of the cars should keep a close eye and do good inspections. It's nice I usually store the car up on a lift so I can always take a look under to check for leaks easily. I think I got lucky and caught it before something bad happened.

Apparently a .1 - Check out the update at the bottom of this - https://www.autoevolution.com/news/p...ns-128642.html
Great advice, Joe. After watching your recent video, my first thought watching this was of you! Glad it wasn't - always enjoy your content. Sad for whoever had to watch their baby go up in flames.

Where were the fire trucks? I’m surprised the fire didn’t spread to the dry grass adjacent to the vehicle. I guess no one want to deploy their optional fire extinguishers

Ugh! There is nothing worse than watching your car burn on the track. Ask me how I know...

Ugh😢. Not watching. Whats the point? I already know what happens in end when things burn. I feel for the owner.

Boys this can happen to all of our cars so beware, your little fire extinguisher has no chance in hell of putting out the fire. Once a rod penetrates the case or a dry oil sump springs a leak and shoots oil on the Cats you will play hell putting out the fire. There is no access to the engine from above and very little room between the rear fender and tire to fight the fire. This happened to one of our guys recently and it took three fire trucks to finally put out the fire. Oil pooling on the bottom wind deflector under the motor just adds fuel to the BBQ.
