Default Rotor Assemby Hardware Kit: Necessary for Rotor Change?

New rotors are on the way. I came across this on the Suncoast website.

It says that replacing the “nipples“ is recommended with each rotor change. Is that really needed? Mine seem to still be in good shape.

Here’s the part they are referring to. The pic of the rotor is screen shot from a YouTube video for reference; mine have no marks etc.

I would just re loctite them. But someone less cavalier than me should chime in.

I bought these as well, and it was part of the service schedule to replace them each time on 997s, but apparently not on 991s. At least I read that on a thread somewhere - supposedly the Suncoast site is wrong in this regard.

On the 997.2’s the nipples are attached to the rotor, so they must be transferred or new installed on the new rotor. On the 991’s the nipples are attacked to the hub and not the rotor. I would just check the nipples and make sure they are no deformed from an ill fitted wheel, replace as needed.

I checked the shop manual sections I pulled and it says to only replace the nipples or bolts on the turbo with center locks. Those cars still attach the wheel guides to the rotors.

"Central bolts (911 Turbo): Use new bolts -1- or five new wheel adapters (depending on condition) -2- .
Replacement wheel adapter (set) contains new screws."

Maybe the key words are “depending on condition”. I wonder why it would say this for the turbo and not the GT3.

You're just supposed to inspect them on the GT3, don't have to be swapped to the new rotors like the turbo.

My understanding is you replace these when they are visibly worn. Their job is to align the rotor and the wheel during assembly, but when the wheel CL is properly torque down they don't hold any of the wheel loads (the friction between the wheel and rotor and rotor and hub handles all of the forces).
