Extended Range Fuel Tank Counter Argument
Why does Porsche design the car with a 16.9 gallon fuel tank and then offer 23.7? I want to track this car, and @$140 it might as well be a no cost option.
Everyone seems to check the 23.7 gallon tank, but I am just asking myself why I am going to tick it even though I am tracking it and it would be a plus on fueling. What is Porsche's thinking here? Just weight or something? Anyone knows how much more it weighs? My Ferrari scuderia has a 25.1 gallon tank so I figured I would get it as they know what they're doing, but I want to hear Porsche's thinking and maybe a counter argument to getting the bigger tank. |
If I recall correctly it has to do with intrusion on the right hand drive cars. The steering column makes a need for the tank to be different. I believe you can't get the larger tank with a RHD car.

Isn’t the standard tank the one used in the AWD 911’s? GT cars being RWD afford the room for a bigger tank. Bean counters at PAG must have realized the larger tank eats into their profit. So now they charge for it. |

I find it funny that the extended tank is a "must" with a 4.0L Porsche, yet the 8.4L ACR does just fine with a 16 Gal tank.

It’s a cheater spec. Car comes standard with small tank, so it’s standard config curb weight is lower. Why would anyone NOT spec a larger tank? Makes no sense... just fill it up less if you want. |
