So I’m still just down to saving $140?
$150 is 0.1% of a $150K car, so it really isn't much. But, why pay $150 for an extended tank, only to fill it up like a standard tank? It just seems silly. To me, anyway. OTOH, we pay for so many of what to me are silly things on our GT3, what's one more? I just paid over $7k for a second set of OEM wheels and tires. Now that's not just silly, that's absolutely bonkers!

because they are times when not tracking ~ in your example offered~ the extra fuel may be desired? idk...

Just admit that if you had the extended tank you’d fill it up all the way, enjoy stopping less often for gas, and never notice the extra weight. It’s OK...

well Joe, what did you think generally? Would you trade any of your cali tracks for the ring? and want to drive it every day, or every month?

Once you've lapped the Ring (or Spa for that matter) - nothing else compares... Ive been going there for 15 years...

40 minutes flat out at Watkins Glen, open track advanced high HP run group on lighter standard tank = 12 gallons consumed. Approximately 3.33 minutes per gallon, maybe more, maybe less depending on track, driving style, traffic, etc.

Any weekend warrior who drives more than 40 minutes continuously on track is asking for trouble. Unless you are like OrthoJoe or Trackar

I usually do a 30-35 minute run, fill car 10 gallons from two 5 gallon jugs I carry on my trailer, then run another 30-35 minutes. Then, time for lunch! Jugs fit nicely in the frunk. Go outside track, fill stomach with greasy food, fill car and jugs with gas, and good to go again!

To simplify, 4 runs of 30 minutes each or a total of 2 hours or 120 minutes, you would need about 36 gallons of gas. How big is that extended tank again?

So, extend tank mandatory for track? Sorry, IME, no. You can get it, but you'll still have to gas up during the day. Unless you drive real slow and economically, while hauling an extra 42 lbs to start
I was at Thunderhill yesterday (3-mile configuration). Did four 20-minute sessions. I have an extended-range tank. At the end of the day my gas gauge read 3/4 tank. I was surprised at how little gas I used. When I filled up, pump said I filled up 12 gallons, so I actually used half a tank. That includes the 8-mile drive to/from the track (16 additional miles). And I wasn't driving like a granny.

Okay. Home to track plus four 20 minute sessions = 12 gallons. If you had the standard tank, that means you still have 4.9 gallons left over to go home with. Not driving like a granny, too. I think you made the counterpoint for the standard tank.

Joe and Larry, I would love to drive the 'Ring or the Spa. Almost made it this year, will try again next year. Won't have my GT3, though. Likely will rent one of those track cars, and most likely will be driving like a granny, be a moving pylon for every one else! LOL

I wasn't arguing one way or the other. Personally, I like having the larger tank though, and I'm glad I spec'd it.

I don't understand the fuel per hour or MPG use?
Is the new 4.0 so much more fuel efficient or are you driving slow tracks?

I can not run one hour on a 23Gal tank, it would be about 90-100 miles at Sebring.

Fast track and maybe more WOT then most tracks and there is the limp mode with a 1/4 tank left, 25Miles DTE would in theory be another 10 laps / 20 minutes till really dry, if it didn't do the limp mode thing.
But still I fill up 19/20 Gallons after two 25/30 minute session of about 80/90 miles.

I don't think there is any track where I can do 3 25 minute sessions....

I don't understand how you run out of gas so quickly. This was my first track day with the GT3 and I was expecting to have to fill up at some point. But I went the entire day and still had 12 gallons left it seems. I dunno...

LOL! No, Peter, the new 4.0L is not magically more efficient. My experience is the same as yours. Thunderhill guzzles the most fuel of all the tracks, laguna is close, and Sonoma uses the least. If I have a tank that is at the 1/2 way marker, it will be just shy of the red markings by the end of one 20 minute session at Thill. This was on both the .1 and .2 GT3.

FourT6and2, what lap time were you getting on what config at Thill? If above 2:00, that would probably explain the discrepancy.

The ring is much more challenging, fast, fun, and DANGEROUS than any track in NorCal. I would love to have the chance to master that track, but fear it would mean crashing to do so. There is no room for error there. 70% of the turns are blind and there are so many undulations. You have to be precise and smooth to go flat out.
