Default Interesting Benefit of CF Wheels

I saw this link on the 991 Board (where they can use Carbon Revolution's 5-lug wheel - no Center-lock option yet). Interesting that even a forged aluminum wheel can effectively lose 1 degree of negative camber for every lateral G when turning (so, with a GT3 you may effectively lose 1.75 degrees of camber through wheel flex in a hard corner). Page 7 talks about this issue, but the rest of the info is interesting too (including claim of better steering feel with CF).

I know people have many questions/problems with CF wheels, but this issue is not one that I knew about:

Very cool, makes sense. Hopefully they can be durable (and cheap) enough for regular track duty some day.

Stiffness has always been a touted benefit of CF wheels. It is also part of the unintended consequences of going to lighter wheels.

How do the expensive Porsche Magnesium wheels compare to the CF wheels?

I couldn't find any specific info about that, except that Forged Mag has higher stiffness to weight than Forged Al (but since the Mag wheels are lighter, I'm not sure if the stiffness is any higher).

I doubt a forged wheel on CL's would move by 1.5 degrees at 1G, if a wheel can move by this much yu can bet the trye will move considerably more !

+1. That seems hard to believe the amount of movement.

The article claims 1.5 degrees at 1.5g (which the GT3 on original tires is more than capable of doing at various points on my local track - I've seen well higher on the g-meter in the dashboard).

That's why I could never keep hubcaps on my '70s cars!

Sorry, but there's no real data in that article on wheel deflection induced camber changes. They make a wild assertion about deflection without any backup data and then run a bunch of theoretical calculations to make the BS look pretty. Did the Racing Brakes guy write that? If I rub the magic RB pads on these special carbon wheels will they aggregate a carbon matrix and get stiffer?

Looked online to see what people say about wheel flex, and found something on rally wheels flexing from some engineer types.. hardly conclusive. But most importantly, tire flex is massively more relevant even if aluminum wheels do flex.. this is carbon wheel marketing prose at its best.

This is something thats factored into any set up, theres usually a reasonable differential between static and dynamic camber. Interesting non the less and maybe a benefit for cars which are limited on the amount of static camber they're able to run.
