Terrible news...

In our neighborhood thieves came through twice in about a year and opened a dozen or so cars and went through them. Middle of the night. Caught video of them both times on neighbors security cameras. About five years prior to that a neighbors Merc was stolen this way.

They don’t clone the key, they amplify the Rf signal so the car thinks the key is at the car.

This is not actually that sophisticated - it’s a device that can be bought and used by anyone.

Faraday bag/cage is passive, it is signal blocking - usually a conductive material in a mesh, stops the signal from the key getting out. No damage to the key as a result.

This news belongs as a sticky on the forum. A red GT2RS sticks out like a sore thumb and everyone has a phone in their car to report it. Prediction: It will be found (probably in Russia).

The miscreants responsible need a new 80 square foot home...
