based on the fact that these failures occurred both at low speed at high-speed although not a mechanic it sounds like a oil pump issue to me

I also have confidence that PAG was on this issue from the jump when it surfaced.

Only 2,000??? Between USA and China, must be 1,000 alone. There's over 100 "pre-owned" ones for sale in the US right now.

* Correction: Many of them heavily garaged awaiting FSBO sales.

Yeah, mines headed to the shop... 500 miles, engine is siezed. I’m pretty sure this will be the last Porsche I own. Delivered August 18’ FYI.

Sorry to hear that. Any more details? Did oil leak out?

No oil anywhere, last ride before winter storage.... pulling into my neighborhood car shut off when I went from 3rd to second (auto blimp to 6k rpms no biggy) tried to start it smoke was coming out of the scoops and smelled like melted wires (most likely from trying to start it a few times).. tried to jump it from my diesel truck. Ended up having to flat tow it as all the tow trucks refused to tow it, during which tried to bump start it car just hooked and locked up the tires because engine is seized. Getting it towed to the dealer today.

U caught it early, so no big deal

Engines that fail, happens early on

Exactly why I would not buy a garage queen w no miles...the longer they are driven the better off they are

A guy in local race shop has a 2016 RS with under 1000 miles grenade last week

I planned on 1500-2k miles a year and a few track days. At least it’s winter.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like these engine failures are from oil starvation. I wonder if the new oiling design is having issues?

I guess that makes my soon to be 30k mile GT3 the most valuable lol.

Are there any updates as to why the engines that have failures are failing? Bad pump? Bad sump? Bad bearings ? Any idea why this happens in the ones that go boom ?

Sorry to hear. That’s terrible. Let us know what it was. Sounds like a bad oil pump but I would think u would get oil pressure warning. Maybe bad bearings? Regardless still sucks.

I would ask ask for new engine but likely can be repaired easily.

Some failures are part of any make.

If this continues, Porsche may just do away with the GT3 and exclusively market the GT3RS as its track-oriented 911 (especially as the 991.2 turbo-powered GTS is quickly closing the performance gap on the NA GT3).

this is the equivalent of taking tens of millions of dollars and throwing it in the trash cause you dont feel like counting it and taping maybe a dozen ripped bills back together

The problem is that if this is a real problem the .2 RS will not be immune. Practically the same engine as the .2 GT3.
