Srsly.
Anyway, Just drove both, or almost literally, 2 days ago. 458 speciale aperta & 911r:, close enough And have driven them plenty in the past also. But feels like such a pointless comparison when one is 2x plus the price of the other, I wouldn't know where to begin. Also, i don't want to overplay my reviews. In bullet point format I'll be brief:
-458 Speciale
GOOD
Screaming engine
Very comfortable interior
Special factor
very balanced and playful for the track.. teaches you when you make a mistake.
Loud loud loud
BAD
transmission not as good as pdk
Under-tired front end on track
Build quality probably not as perfect as Porsche
Loud loud loud.
GT3
GOOD
911 driving dynamics if you like that sort of thing
Amazing engine as we know (better than R, let's not even go there)
Rear wheel steering is fantastic dynamically
Value for money can't be beat
BAD
uncomfortable compared to roomy 458 interior
It's not a Ferrari??
can't compare something which is 2x price.. if you have $450k to spend, sure get the Rari. But you can get a gt3T and be happy forever

I may add that I would get a .1 RS for the track and a .2 MT GT3 or Touring for driving to work and I did. It cost me far less to have these two great GT cars than a Speciale.

Do the delivery of the touring, let pistas land, start looking at speciales that are put on the market for the newest model. Enjoy the touring and take your time to find the right speciale at the right price. If you found it already, just get it.

I have 6MT GT3 and a Speciale. Very different driving, and ownership, experiences.
I respect the GT3 for the fun factor of driving, the "perceived" reliability (not sure how much of that is actually myth), and the relative lack of attention so very daily usable.
The Speciale creates a lot more emotion; in driver, passenger, and bystanders.
After deciding to drive the Speciale on any given Saturday morning, I am already excited long before opening the garage, anticipating the drive coming while eating breakfast.
The garage doors go up, and the car takes my breath away, simply stunning in rossa corsa with NART stripe.
Letting the engine warm, and slowly pulling out of the driveway is one of life's great pleasures.
I'd love to load pictures but I can't seem to get it to work with my iPad , even after putting pictures into an album....oh well. Plenty on FerrariChat.
My advice, if you can swing it...get the car that lights your imagination.
