The only thing I inherited was my father's will to work hard. I owe a lot to him. We came from nothing and he busted his hump for many years in his own machine shop to put my brother and I through college. I worked two jobs while in school to help pay tuition. Learned all I could about computers and started my own biz with a HS buddy. It took 20+ years and we currently sell a few components that make cloud servers run. As the cloud grew, so did my ability to afford more cars. I check in on RL a couple times a day to get away from the grind.

What continues to amaze me is the number of posts a bunch of RLers manage to churn out. Just doing some math based on join date and the number of posts they have accumulated since, a lot of RLers have posted between 4-7 posts a day. Where they get the time befuddles me.

College professor/cancer researcher. Founded a biotech to develop cancer drugs. One of our drugs is now approved by the FDA and another is a few months away. Had a recent payout when the company was acquired by a large pharma company to market the new drug. This happened in early February of this year. By mid February I was driving a brand new GT3 991.2 (manual). After years of hard work I am finally able to afford my dream car.

Vascular and Interventional Radiologist, I check RL between clinic visits, procedures, imaging studies, etc. Lots of 1-2 minute chunks of downtime to peruse the forums

I own a food brokerage company. I check Rennlist a couple of times a day for a nice break. Still waiting on an inheritance...not holding my breath.

Partner in an investment advisory firm. Own a minority stake in the business, so I joke it's kinda the worst of both worlds: All the headaches of ownership, without the freedom, as I still have a senior/majority partner. Spend a lot of my day at my desk with multiple computer screens, so "multi-tasking" is fairly quick and easy. One monitor is basically devoted to toggling between RL and Bring-A-Trailer.com, lol.

And FWIW, like many others I'm sure, I'm not really what I would call wealthy yet. Just a guy that's saved and scrimped for years to pour an irrational percentage of his disposable income into this hobby. When I paid $30k for my first 911, nearly 20 years ago, I never would've dreamed of spending $150k+ for a GT3. So I guess I've come a long way. But it's still a mighty big purchase for me.

It occurs to me that the profile of RLs in here is maybe not too different from the profile of people who go to the track often (including weekdays) in nice cars. Lots of business owners, execs and senior managers, people with large passive incomes, semi-retired and retired, some docs, etc. We're a fortunate bunch!

Retired three months ago from over 32 years in the professional beauty salon industry. Held C- Level and other executive positions with Helene Curtis (Shiseido), Redken (Loreal), Wella (Coty), Keune Haircosmetics, Procter and Gamble (Nioxin), Goldwell/KMS(KAO Corporation). No inheritance, all earned in the corporate world, no business owned...........GT3 was my retirement gift to myself.......4th Porsche I have owned, so I have time now to peruse the forum in various areas each day.......great website.......

I run a large power plant facility and work about 50 hours/week with a lot of calls on weekends.

My boss is in a different state so I'm the king of my little world. I check RL frequently because I get board easily.

Unfortunately, I work in the old economy. Nothing tech, social media, FANG or otherwise serious wealth generating industry. I've been a commodities trader for 20+ years and it's all I've ever done post college. Pre-college grad i spent a lot of time behind the wheel (of a truck) or in a warehouse pushing boxes. so, UPS to get thru school and comm's river boat gambler ever since. My whole family is in logistics. Comms trading was a freak accident for me. It was a hell of a lot of fun and quite a run but it peaked in mid-2000's and pretty sure I'll be 99% replaced by geeks and algorithms w/in 5yrs.

I was one of those "value guys" that liked the cars but saw it as much as a trade: 991 pdk-only and engine bbq's, in backdrop of overall mad scramble for all-things-analogue. That dragged me into the hobby on a larger scale. Now I despise the market side of cars and my goal is to destroy value in every toy I ever own. It's purely about the goosebumps behind the wheel and talking to nuts with the same affliction.

I spend too much time on RL. I hope i retire soon enough and spend more time driving and less time RL. Although i think retirement just means you stop working long enough to get bored and invent a different way to make a buck.
