This is coming from someone who owned gt2rs for 3yrs and 12000 miles. For street driving and if sound is important keep the r. To collect maybe go 2rs.

All 997.2 cars have the new A91 motors whereas the .1 turbo cars enjoy the venerable Mezger lump as does the GT2RS
The 997 GT2 RS also has the .2 interior

Also, the 2009 Turbo and GT2 were unique. 2009 was the first model year for the 997.2; the MY09 Turbo/GT2 are .1 on the outside (lights and bumper) and have the Mezger engine, but got the .2 interior like the other MY09 cars--except for the steering wheel, which was still .1 spec. Starting MY10, the Turbo/S got the .2 lights and the 9A1 engine. The GT2 always had a Mezger (of course).

Of course.... I forgot about the interior, we are mainly talking about the PCM here or were there other changes ? The '09 GT2s have the PCM3 also.

Mainly PCM3, but also the black climate control with buttons that don't peel and a different (upgraded IMO) steering wheel. (But for some reason, MY09 Turbos and GT2s have .2 interiors with .1 steering wheels)

All MY09's have PCM3 AFAIK.

Keep the R, get a 991 GT2RS... You'll have a raw feel NA 911 with MT gearbox and the fastest 911 ever made! :-)

This is true and the opposite is true. I have never driven a 991 or even sat in one, not interested. But I own the ‘09 GT2 and GT2RS for many years, and a year ago gt3rs3.8. Honestly, I think that the 3.8RS is the best. I may just pick up a 4.0. 997 is it for me. It is hard to beat the 997 RS. (I’m sorry, didn’t answer the question).

That makes no sense. I have similar conversations with my children - “that food is yucky” “how do you know if you haven’t tried it?” Try a 991, you may like it!

I have never driven a 997 of any type. Obviously I would do so before purchasing it but I was wondering if those of you who have driven both of these cars, if it is a worthwhile swap, or am I going to find the car 'dated' and be disappointed with the overall driving experience of the 997 2RS relative to the R?

I know both cars are hard core visceral, but how would you best describe the driving differences between the two?

Thanks a bunch.
Are you collecting or are you going to use them? If it's the later, just get an gt2, seriously. Put the rs imtercoolers or do88 or ams, exhaust and an sambo or esmotor tune. Drop the engine to do coolant pipes, put a guards lsd and add lwfw and clutch to endure all the new power. If you add suspension (tractive or even kw + solid bits) you are already wayyyyy ahead of any gt2 rs both on experience, enjoyment and performance, wayy ahead and with enough money on the pocket for a gt3 touring or a gt3 mt.

But if it is experience that you are looking, 996 gt2 with sorted suspension, rare, fun, fast, scary, cheap to run and to get.

I agree and am long time 911 owner. I had a 997.1RS and a 997.2RS. My 2015 991TTS is a fantastic car on every level. Stupid fast...handles great in the Malibu canyons(new rubber tech helps alot) and burmeister sounds great on the ride home. That said my favorite P cars of all time are CGT and 997.1RS. Give me CGT in black and 1.RS in orange.

These are great debates to have...

interested why you prefer the .1RS to the .2 (997)
the .1 was pretty similar to .1GT3 was it not?
more differences in .2 version

There is something very special about the 3.6 motor in the .1RS. I realize the .2 pulls harder but I like the way the .1RS delivers its power.

The 3.6 motor and lwfw spins up pretty nicely. The looks are pretty iconic. On the street, 3.6rs super fun. On the track 3.8rs so much more well sorted.

The Grey with red 997.2RS would probably be number three on my all time keeper list. There are so many great 911's. I am also very fond of the 993 turbo.
