Test drove a 991.1 GT3, a few questions...
Hi
just came back from test driving a 2015 GT3. Amazing car.
Had a great time.
I have a few questions for GT3 owners.
this car had a high msrp (high 160k in 2015) but no bucket seats. It has adaptive sport seats. This GT3 has no sport chrono.
How bad is for the car not having bucket seats? How much will hurt the resale if any? After driving it extensively I do not see the need for sport chrono but if you guys think differently, I would like to hear your input.
Car has PCCB and man they squeak. Is it normal? I read about it but i was not expecting this. GT3 only has 6500 miles.
Lastly, warranty will expire in december but i can get an extended warranty for 7 years (so 3 extra years of warranty) up to 60k miles for 6k.
Worth it? I know Porsche extended drivetrain warranty on GT3 until 120k or 10 years thanks to some great rennlist members.
Your input is , as always, much appreciated.

If you have no intention to track the car, don’t get the bucket seats. Forget about resale.
Steel and PCCB squeak. Loud. Like a freight train.
I personally wouldn’t get an extended warranty at this time.

I wanted LWB as I intend 90% for track use. If I were planning a 50-50 track/street use I would definitely go 18 way seats.
I feel the 10 year power train warranty is all you will need.
Good luck.

Just a clarification- the additional warranty from Porsche is not a powertrain warranty. The specific wording in the letter is "internal engine components". Still, it's a great car. Best of luck.

It's more about perception really, I'd guess 3/4 of the people who get buckets on these cars find them uncomfortable and don't plan to track, but they get them only for resale considerations.
I think like most options the older the car the less it matters, and there are plenty of buyers who hate the bucket seats and seek out GT3s with sofas. Plus it usually means that the car probably hasn't been tracked.
I think you can discard this as a $ variable and go with the seats you find more to your liking.
Now if you were getting an R we'd be having a different convo.

1. If you like the 18 way seats, who cares about resale. But ultimately, one with buckets should fetch a little more.
2. All porsche brakes squeal
3. I wouldn't get the extended warranty. Porsches are generally very reliable.

Thanks for the replies.
I thought the seats were comfortable.
6k miles and they want 140k.
GT Silver is the color.
Car is a real beast. Fell in love with it. Decisions...Decisions.

I’ve got the 18 ways and they are really comfy on the street. On the track, they are serviceable. The impact on resale isn’t material. PCCBs squeal but not a lot. Skip the extended warranty. Good luck, offer $135K I’m sure they’ll take it.

I would only select the LWB seats if the car was going to be heavily tracked. The fact that this car does not have LWB seats probably tells you it wasn’t tracked heavily, or at all. No guarantee, but i would take a much closer look at a car with LWB seats, because that says track car to me. For occasional track use the 18 way seats are fine. I have done two track days and never felt unstable in the seat. On the street they are significantly more comfortable than the LWB seats, so if you have a girlfriend/wife they will appreciate it. Sport Chrono is really just a nice clock on the dash. I like it but it isn’t a deal breaker either way. Some prefer the car without it, and i would say people who like it enough to pay for it are probably in the minority here. PCCB brakes squeal. It is normal. Best brakes you can get on the car.
As far as extended warranty, i would opt for it. Even though the engine is not an issue for a long time, you have the PDK transmission which is $20k alone, and lots of tech and computer stuff that can fail. I think your odds of breaking even at $6k are pretty good, and if anything major goes you scored. I would do it.
Enjoy the car. It is brilliant. Two and a half years into owning mine (28,000 miles), and i still get excited reaching for the keys.

Agree with the general sentiments, but $6k is a lot for an extended warranty. As a point of comparison, Porsche's CPO program is ~$3,000 for 2-years, unlimited miles.

Burning Brakes
I owned a 2014 GT3-1 for 4 years and 25,000+ Miles. GREAT CAR!!!! It had Steel brakes with OEM pads. No Squeal - Ever!
I now own a 2018 GT3-2 - also a great car. Steel Brakes + OEM pads. No Squeal in 3,000 Miles.
Also own a 2015 TTS with PCCB Brakes and OEM pads, with No Squeal.
Been my observation through the years that harder brake pads, ie Yellow Pagids, will often cause squealing brakes.
If it really bugs you, and you have after market brake pads, try changing back to the original OEM Porsche Brake pads.
