OK>>>> More up to date news! Road America has graciously extended time to the cause following the first day of David Murry! There will be 45 minutes allocated to getting both cars out for laps. We will have both cars ready at 4:30 for Bryan to go out. I believe the 2RS will go first to give Bryan some extra time if needed to get to know car and grip level of tires. Bryan can treat the Cup as if he were qualifying so three laps should be fine.
I have put 750 miles on the 2RS getting ready for oil change and tire swap. My first evaluation of the car is that it is OMG fast. It was easily able to keep up with 3 Crotch Rocket bikes, so much so that they actually gave me thumbs up because they were shell shocked. I know we all have our opinions and feel nothing can compare to a Race Car but the long straights at RA will be where it will make a difference. I predict a 15-20 mph difference.

I did a 2:14.2 in my 991.1 Cup at Road America at the end of a hot day during IMSA GT3 Cup Practice 2 in 2016 on Yokohamas (end of race condition tires). Here's that lap:
The next day I did a 2:13.2 on better tires.
The top 1-2 drivers at the front of the highest IMSA GT3 Cup class (991.2 cars this year, or 991.1 cars in 2016) are as fast (or faster) than most Pros in Cup cars (who don't race them regularly) because they spend so much time in them -- and the Super Cup and Carrera Cup DE guys are even another level up. Also, the guys at the front of the Cup fields will take chances that most other people won't, because they're trying to become paid Pros.
I love Bryan and he's gone out of his way to coach me and is the perfect guy to have doing this test. But I hope he doesn't try TOO hard... I don't want to see him hurt himself in a street car (and that thing will be stupid fast).
My bet is that he will be at least 10 seconds a lap faster in the Cup than the GT2RS at Road America. :-)

Good points all.
But no way in hell its 10 seconds slower then the CUP.
Because talent challenged DE drivers like me do that in a GT3RS with 200HP less and crappier tires...
Good thing you didn’t bet your house ;-)

I concur, 10 seconds is way too much. We have many guys here that can drive within 10 seconds of what the cups are doing. I doubt sellers puts this guys 500k car at max risk, but a sub 2:20 will be a relative breeze in that car.

I agree with both statements! I am sure he will not be driving 10/10s in either car. I do however know that his skill will be matched in both cars so the difference in the two cars is what we are looking for. Having driven both cars, I cannot honestly say which will win. Logic says that the Cup can do a 2:11 and no street car has yet to come close...... But there has never been a car that comes close to this and Road America lends itself to this car because of its high speed straights. We will know more soon!

SDGT3,
First Thanks for putting this Event together, I plan to attend.
Second, I have a line on some cockpit recording equipment for the event. I contacted a friend at a well-known race shop that is interested in participating. Send me a pm with your contact info so they can reach out tomorrow.

The second point we digress--I see far more variables that will penalize the cup's performance, and am sticking with a bet of 2.5s or less...

Re-reading the article in the Winter 2017 issue of 000 about the GT2RS, and the comparisons they made to the GT3 Cup... Stout and crew seem to think they're pretty dang close.
I bet they'd be really close if they were both on the same tire.
