Default PCM 4.0 Navigation and Apple Car Play

Porsche Korea does not order GT3T. So I ordered my GT3T from Europe and came with the Eropean Map and languages on PCM 4.0. When I took the car to dealer, they were told by PK not to change the settings on my PCM, so the dealer couldn’t install fonts or the local map.

So I searched through the internet and found a way to jailbreak one of my old iPhone which is now used as my navigation for GT3T. This phone has no sim card and will not work as regular phone but allows Apple Car Play to use many other softwares icluding Waze on PCM screen.

Apple Car Play with Jailbroken iPhone

Waze screen on PCM

Now my extra Jailbroken iPhone will allow many software to appear when connected to PCM via Apple Car Play. But, when I get a phone call on my regular phone, bluetooth is not working since Apple Car Play is connected with the Jailbroken phone. Bummer!

Is there a way to request imported car to have languages and local maps installed on PCM?

Waze on screen would be amazing. Would this be possible in the US?

Yes, it's coming in Sept when IOS 12 is released. To run it now you need to jail break your phone, but that can have other issues.

Did you import it yourself personally or go through grey importer like JAJ or A1?
If you bought it through grey importer then they should take care of this for you......

I am confused how Waze is working from a phone with no sim card. Where is it getting real-time data from?

You can put a sim in the PCM to use it as a hotspot. Waze would then receive it's data via wifi.

Correct, it is possible in the US. But you will have to jailbreak the phone. I had an old iPhone which I am not using, so jail broke it and using my normal phone with hotspot for data.

Or you can wait until OS 12 release.

So Waze will be available in our .2 GT3s in Sept.??

Do we just bring in our cars for a software upgrade?

Yes, it will be available once IOS 12 is released (should be late sept). The PCM is just the display, no need for software update on the car, just the phone. That's the great thing of CarPlay or Android Auto, Apple/google control the content and features.

Google has updated maps, so it's now available on CarPlay, works well.

i have waze operating on carplay in the u.s. with the latest beta build of waze (was just released on monday).

ios12 already supports this, it's the waze app that hasn't yet become generally available. they're releasing it in october.

if you want to get it now, you can join the waze beta program. it took them a day to approve me.

once you're approved, you need to add the "TEST FLIGHT" app to your phone from the Apple App Store. This app lets you gain access to beta applications that you've been approved for.

only the developers of the apps (in this case, waze), can give you access to their beta app.

in summary:

1. get test flight from the app store
2. sign up for the waze beta here: https://support.google.com/waze/beta.../7287364?hl=en
3. once you're approved, they'll send you a redemption code, or you can click the link in the approval email - and then waze beta will show up in the test flight app.

or, just wait until waze releases their updated version to the public in october.

no jailbreaking or special configuration is needed for ios12. no upgrades needed to PCM/carplay.

But we do not have CarPlay available on the .2 GT3, do we? I just picked mine up a few days ago so I haven't spent much time with the PCM.

the .2 GT3 has carplay. you won't see the carplay prompt or the icon on PCM until you plug your iphone into the usb port in the middle console.
