GT2RS's tailpipes are dummies mounted to the rear fascia?
This is from the GT2RS vs ZR1 comparo in the new Car and Driver. Nice surprise from the mailbox when I got home from work today. Porsche was predictably the better car, but at a $200K price delta, and that is without the ADM! There is a quote on the fourth page of the article about the tailpipes which I think look great, but they did not elaborate, except to comment that having these was 'out of character for a product of Porsche's GT department'. Can any owners confirm?

I'd agree with this. Even though the look is fine from most angles, at one point it becomes clear the surround is larger than the actual outlet. It could have and should have been better.

I know many folks don't like the idea of fake tips however it looks fine 99% of the time on performance vehicles IMO. Like on the E63 for example I think it looks really nice from nearly all angles. I'd prefer if they were real but if it was easy to dismount and wash in the sink I think I might even prefer that. (or cheap enough to just throw away) For some reason getting my exhaust tips/pipes clean is a lot of work.

The exhaust moves with the engine, but the bumper is rigid. So with the tip rigidly attached to exhaust, they would need to make huge holes around tips to allow for movement, like they do in Turbo. They would have looked worse and would have made aero worse. So why not make the connection between the tip and exhaust piping non-rigid? It just makes sense, practically and visually. The journos are just looking for made up flaws.

GT2RS Fake Exhaust Outlet
I was at the airport, picked up Car & Driver, and read the same thing. Then I texted a friend at Porsche to confirm. It's hard to believe. In my past 40 year history with Porsche this represents everything Porsche was not. The GT2 RS is remarkable; 935 performance and drive it to the grocery store every day...safely. There is no reason to fake anything. Just take pride in the engineering and the decision to eliminate a traditional exhaust configuration. No apologies necessary. I wouldn't buy a Toyota Tacoma Sport because of the fake hood scoop. Don't we love this brand for its authenticity? Years ago I had a new 1983 SCRS stored in my garage. The window crank wasn't from a 911SC but was a crappy plastic part from the base model VW Golf. But it weighed nothing!!!! This post ought to end my place in line for a Speedster.
