Default manual 991.2 GT3 - metallic clank/click on down shifts in sport mode. is it normal?

So just took delivery of my 991.2 manual gt3. Now close to 200 miles and started hearing a metallic clank/click when I down shift in sport mode. Starting to get really worried... has anybody heard anything like this? I might have to take the car into the dealership.

Always go with your gut, as your comment is interesting that you started to discover that noise vs it was that way from the start

FYI I hear a metallic clank on downshift in my PDK car which I always thought of as a cool noise?

Yeah, I really feel like the noise isn't something they'd include on purpose. The problem is, which dealership do I trust with my car...

Does it sound like a throttle plate opening and hitting a limit? I get a loud click seemingly randomly when first starting out in 1st or occasionally when downshifting at lower revs. I can’t consistently reproduce.

Yeah, that could definitely be the sound. It's very consistent in my case.

Mine does the same, i thought it was the exhaust valve at low revs since it is closed but with sport mode the auto rev opens the valves for a second or so.

Yeah I thought it was my exhaust flaps flopping open / closed too, maybe due to vacuum spikes during shifts.

Is it more prominent early on, since I'm keeping the @ 4k rpm till break in? Maybe its less pronounced at higher rpm?

I only notice it when I’m shifting at low rpm like that (or sometimes just the act me me putting it in 1st gear from 2nd when rolling to a stop will do it).

You mean whenever you spike the throttle? you can hear that in every gear as long as you give the throttle sufficient input (mash it). it was my understanding that the flaps in the intake manifold are the culprit for this sound

Nope. It's the first time I've had a manual that rev matches on downshift. Noise seemed a bit odd.

Quick Reply: manual 991.2 GT3 - metallic clank/click on down shifts in sport mode. is it normal?
