Particulate filter power loss.

Particulate filter power loss.
This is from the new Z4 preview. Look at that huge performance loss with the filter. Could it be the US is finally getting the best motor??
"Not that the range-topping Z lacks firepower. When the car launches next year, there will be a choice between a four-cylinder 30i and a six-cylinder M40i, the latter sharing the same turbocharged engine as the M240i. This was the car we got to drive in France, although in its lesser European state of tune—apparently the presence of a gasoline particulate filter limits output to 335 horsepower, while in the States it should make 382 horses, according to BMW engineers. Both versions produce the same 369 lb-ft of torque. There will be no manual gearbox, as the engineering costs were too high given the likely low take rate, so a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic will be the only transmission choice. The Z4 M40i will get an electronically controlled limited-slip differential as standard. BMW’s provisional numbers say it should run the Euro-spec zero-to-62-mph benchmark in 4.4 seconds."

I noticed that too. Could be the reverse of the 1970's and 1980's...

Ironic if it comes to pass that US cars do not require particulate filters. I can't imagine EPA is unaware of this issue.

Our NA GT car's days are numbered.

Wow, that is huge, I was expecting more like 15-25hp like cats. Same torque but the filter kills the top end.... Gasoline is the new diesel....
At Smokies we asked about this and the official line was Porsche builds global cars, no plans for USA specific no filter/more hp cars.

So they released the hp information for the RS some time ago. They've known about the filter for much longer than this. Are they going to drop it on the 2019 European car to 480hp or something? How could they do that? Or are they going to tune it up so that it still makes 520hp even with the GPF?
This concerns me even more than PTS or deviated stitching.
Someone at Smokies should have asked them how they make their global cars without cages in North America.

I can guarantee no matter what difference the GPF makes to the power output; the official power figures will be the same as the pre filter RS's..If it turns out my assumption is way off the mark, then i will keep my existing 500HP GT3 and ignore the new RS...And i suspect i won't be the only potential buyer to take this view..!

The return of the malaise era... the transition from fossil fuel to electric. Gonna suck. Buy more antiques!
Diesels have DPFs in them. Removing uncorks. Computers aren't happy. Have to tune around it.
I suspect eventually they figure out how to make them efficient and not suck power. Sort of like removing cats these days gets you a bit, but nothing like uncorking an older car's cat.
