Honestly I'm SHOCKED how close the poll is between something like a 997 4.0 and a 991 3rs or R. I mean, i know this is a 991 sub-forum, but to crown a car so new the best-all-time w/out having any context for what comes after it; it is a surprising result in the poll. I'd assume CGT, 73rs, 997 4.0, 993 gt2 would be miles out in front of anything truly modern. But that's purely my view of how I judge an all-time great. I might look back in 5-10yrs and decide the R is better than all of them?

Nope. It's in my avatar...a car that should be all numbers but turned out to be an incredible experience. Think 1973 RS 2.7 dynamics with 997 GT2+ pace. On 205/50R17 and 255/40R17 street tires.
Finally revisited the Singer, as Maz and Rob were razzing me to drive a recent car, and they have really dialed that thing in. It's done—as in, they could sell that car exactly that way for 10-20 years with no changes and no complaints. Just a lovely, and wonderfully evolved, thing for the road.
Hate to burst a balloon, but the 993 GT3 is a lot of visual excitement partnered with a RWD 993 Turbo experience. That's might be an overstatement, and one I am sure goes out the window once you start drifting (or modding) the thing, but the 993 GT2 was surprisingly nice but something of a disappointment when I drove my first one. But man, I loved the way it looked—and maybe I'll change my mind after driving a third one. As with the 73 RS, here's a reason people love 993 GT2s—or several reasons—and I agree with all those reasons, but I find the CGT, 996 GT3, 987.2 Spyder, 997 4.0, 991.1 R, and 991.2 GT3/Touring miles and miles ahead in terms of driving excitement on road or track. YMMV, and there is something to be said for nostalgia and vintage good looks. When wasn't there?

I can totally see why you think the 993tt is boring to drive. I own one and I love the look and feel of sitting in the car. Can’t even compare it to the driving experince of the 997rs4.0 or the 996gt3rs.
Thinking about selling my 993tt and getting a 964 or a 993 NA weekend toy. A 964rs replica with a 3.8l engine would be nice.
my dream list would be 997rs4.0 > CGT > 964rs 3.8 > 993gt2evo

Don't let a few turbo cars—or even most turbo cars—get you down on all turbo cars. I prefer coupes, generally, but there are open cars that are better than 90% of the coupes out there. The CGT is one, the 987.2 Spyder is another. Same goes for turbo cars. We are totally spoiled by recent NA engines, and 911 GT3 > 911 Turbo in my book, but the current Carrera 3.0 twin-turbo engine is insanely good and fun in use. There are other incredibly exciting forced induction cars...the Yellow Bird is one of them, a supercharged 993 from years ago stands out, too. I hear the F40 ain't bad, either...while the 355 I drove was just okay.
Sadly, most are at least 90% trophy these days. I have an old 914, and there are times where I wonder why I keep it other than the fact I've had it for 28 years...but we have to put their performance in the context of their time, or maybe a decade after it. And then they do have their charms...but if I am going for a real journey or a real drive, I just about always take the modern machine.

often times we try to cerebrally justify what we like or categorize stuff so it makes sense to us.
while i am trained as an engineer, i no longer care about data... to me it's meaningless (other than when i work)
if you drive it and you like it, then so be it.
i may appear like a human (pete met me, can confirm i have no horn on my forehead) i do bring my gund bears to board meetings and often ask them for opinions before i cast my vote. while other board members find that strange, i couldn't careless what they think...
so be it 914, 928, cgt, 4.0, 3.8. if u are having a ball, then it's all good.
now i need to take my bears for a drive.
