Looks of 991.1 GT3 vs 991.2 GT3

It grows on you quickly - .1 looks tired now

I think the .1 is clearly better looking, so i agree with you. Both both cars look great.

Both look great. I prefer the front bumper of the .1 but the rear bumper of the .2 (that little black vent looks out of place honestly). I'm torn between the tail lights of both because I like them equally.

As expected, the 991.2 facelift brought greater surface tension and detailing which translates to a more sculpted and modern design.
This is similarly why many Porschephiles prefer 993 styling to that of the 964 and 997 styling to that of the 996.
Most exterior designers know where they want to go, but must evolve a design slowly based on the product’s lifecycle.
Sometimes technologies sush as composites and superforming also allow for shapes and details not previously possible.
For what it’s worth, to my eye the 991.1 styling was spot on and the 991.2 is simply a better resolved interpretation of that design.

991.1 front is very straightforward, unique
.2 front bumper is nipped and tucked, slanted back, shark-like, very nice looking but more 'styled, and derivative in my view
i see this as rather analogous to 997.1 to 997.2 gt3 front end treatment... .1 more defining, straightforward, business like, .2 sleeker more modern but also less distinctive
neither are ugly, .1 cars are more straight-ahead in looks imho
rear deck vent scoops on .2 are f-ugly... at least they are functional

Exactly. That piece of art being replaced with black plastic is a shame. They should have gone with the 997 RS design. That would have been an upgrade. The black wing tips is another minus, and the black bits on the front rounds out the meh imo. But, engine and manual trump those things. But the OP was purely talkng about looks, and the .1 takes it easily imo.

Edit:
when I had my well optioned .1 GT3 (157k msrp), I was ready to take the .2 GT3 4.0 car with no extra options any day. Yes, specking the car yourself: special colors, leather this and that, etc., all are extras and I’ll take it. But since I want to get old with this car, all the cosmetics are still cosmetics, IMO. My .2 is 158k msrp, lacking many of the options of my .1, including leather, carbon fiber, LEDs, lighting, and others. Have not missed any of those even for a fraction of a second.

I like the black scoops. Just wish they were matte carbon fiber.
