GT3 991.1 wont start

Need help with my GT3. Turn the key and the console lights up, headlight come on but starter doesn't fire. No clicking. Headlights don't dim. Voltage at the battery 11.9v. Same thing happened 3 weeks ago at the track. After hours of trouble shooting, the car suddenly started perfectly after pressing the door lock button on the center console.
Well I tried that trick again but without success this time. The engine was replaced under warranty 2 months ago. The fuses all look good. Tried moving the shifter from park to neutral and back into park. Break pedal sensor appears to be working fine. I'm frustrated!

I would try a new battery. It may not work, but if I remember correctly, most of my cars have a battery charge close to 13 when off and higher when running.

Bone GT3 05-16-2018 03:07 AM

Currently on the charger. Will try a new battery if that doesn't work.

Raucky 05-16-2018 08:50 AM

I would guess that 11.9v isn't enough juice

abiazis 05-16-2018 08:52 AM

Buy a new battery. Had similar experience with a Mercedes SL 65....

Ok full day of charging an still nothing. Like I said everything turns on but absolutely nothing from the starter.
Any recommendations on battery? OEM vs other.

Did you try jump starting it with another car? If not, I've seen to have read on here that calling Porsche roadside will get you a battery cheaper than through the dealer.

Ben1299S 05-16-2018 11:37 AM

It could still the battery - a dud battery can show a resting voltage of 14.4v after being charged but may still not have enough amps to start the car, this happened to me. I'd try another battery before anything else.

Ben1299S 05-16-2018 11:38 AM

I wouldn't buy a battery at a dealer, I'd get one from an independent supplier with the same amp/hr capacity. Porsche batteries are just relabelled batteries from other manufacturers.

I'd consider the group buy for these:

Working before after pressing the door lock button might suggest an electrical gremlin. If you do need a new battery the Antigravity group buy might be an option worth looking into. ExMB is right. I purchased a battery from AAA after a failed attempt to jump start a car. It was cheaper.

oh god, electrical gremlins.

I hope it's just a wonky battery. seriously, I am putting out good energy into the universe for you.

rattlsnak 05-16-2018 11:24 PM

Did you try to shut all the doors, lock it, then unlock it, enter and try it? Does it chirp ok?

Bone GT3 05-17-2018 02:30 AM

Ok put in new battery after a failed attempt at jumping the car. During the jump process 13.7 volts at connection beyond terminals. New battery didn't help. Both FOBS work. Remote lock with doors closed with good chirp. Thought it might be immobilizer issue, but I honestly don't know enough other than what I've read regarding the immobilizer being in a transit versus hand off mode which can be problematic. Maybe someone out there has some experience with the immobilizer issues and whether they are relevant to my situation.
I drove the car gingerly to work and back without any issue with road hazards, weather or mechanical concerns just 3 days ago. There was no issue with starter clunking or clicking, loss of power etc.
Given my experience one time previously I really feel this is more related to an failing or faulty anti theft or security system.

abiazis 05-17-2018 02:57 PM

Sorry man...thought that was it....
