Default Alternatives to MICHELIN CUP 2

In GT3 sizing

Dunlop Sport Maxx Race 2 N1. Approved by Porsche and shipped on 50% of GT3s. Its purely pot luck what you get.

I got Michelin on my .2 GT3 PDK and Dunlops on my Touring. And despite what various pundits might say, I defy anybody to tell the difference on the track without first knowing what tyre was on the car.

Trofeo R. Rest of options either not in the proper size or just garbage tires. Good for city driving though.

If street, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.

If street/track... Cup 2's

If street/track leaning more towards track... Trofeo R's

If track, Hoosier 20" in OEM sizes are 'almost' available. The rears are... the fronts are weeks away.

Best Regards,
Dave

This is it in a nutshell. Only beware the Trofeo R’s have substantially less life than the OEM Cups. Same with Hoosiers too as well. Grip for life. .

Thanks for the good summary, Dave.

Looked at this same problem, recently. https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-...vs-trofeo.html . It is my understanding that the Trofeo R is indeed stickier than MPSC 2, but then they die pretty quickly. Overall, the MPSC2 N1 wins this contest, IMO. Went ahead and got a full replacement set of MPSC 2, while waiting for the Hoosier 20's to become available. Will need a new set of track dedicated wheels, too, by then. LOL. Slippery slope

Agreed, that's my impression of the Trofeo R's as well. My preference is 'if' you can get a 2nd set a wheels... MP4S for the street and Hoosiers for the Track.

I have the 20" Hoosiers in my possession and will be testing weekend after next to see how times compared to my Cup 2's previously. They aren't available publicly just yet... but should be in the next few weeks.

Here's a sneak peak before mounting and balancing:

Best Regards,
Dave
