no i don't think it is normal - i will get to the bottom of this and get it fixed

with 6-7 997 gt variants and 5-6 991/981 gt's on hand (and having driven countless others), none of them do this... it's not ok

checked rear decklid... it's flush and tight, rubber bump stops secure

maybe it is the shock as mooty says

marty - no tire rub for me

possibly loose sway bar... usually tie rod ends or sway bar links get loose on the front end...

i will complete break in miles then get it back to dealer have them sort it out along with oil change and dial in alignment

I went for a brake pad bed-in drive tonight and I have a variety of clunks in the rear when hitting potholes as well that doesn’t sound great. I’m going to check my deck lid and torque down the sway bar connections as well and hope it resolves it...

In other news, the throttle mapping for this car is nothing like the GT4. They almost make it feel like a turbo to me at light / part throttle. Still learning how to drive this light clutch. Wish it had the GT4 clutch feel...

Noticed it too. Put it down to rollcage. But I guess I am proven wrong now. Wish I didn't read this, because now the doubts will start to creep up again :-)

YMMV

How did the dealer diagnose a dead shock on the car?

What was the noise and symptoms that lead to you taking it to the dealer?

I doubt it's a loose sway bar, bad endlink, or a real suspension problem if so many people notice the same noise. Probably just a spring rotating on the perch when the suspension unloads (even with helper springs).

I notice it when I hit a particularly abrupt/hard bump. It doesn't appear to be when the suspension unloads, but under compression. I will pay more attention, as I could be wrong.

A bump that loads both sides of the car or just one? If it's just one, as in just the rear driver or rear passenger, then it might point toward a sway bar issue. But if both wheels hit the bump at the same time and it makes the noise, then I might look to some other cause.

for me it is when the suspension suddenly unloads... both sides evenly... clank... at the top of the unloading bounce, only when there is a decent kick upwards

the noise does not occur when one side of the car takes a jolt...

Hi !
Any update on this issue ?
I heard many Gt3s making the noise (mine included since day 1) but also several silent ones.
In my opinion it has something to do with too short rear springs moving when the damper gets fully unloaded, maybe some cars have slightly out of tolerance springs due to production issues or so.
The noise didn't is not related to a loose sway bar link (my left link was loose after some trackday but fixing it didn't change the clunk).
OPC obviously says it's normal.

I traced a similar issue on my 15 GT3 and GT4 to movement in the control arm. The inserts do allow for some twist.

+1.... It's the cage IMHO.. . My gt4 done similar noise but less frequently .. No shocks related.... My gt4 had leaking shocks changed after few kms... But the metallic clunck in particular road conditions never gone away

Hi 100% it's not the cage, the OP has the noise on a Touring and a friend's of mine PDK car with the clunk was investigated by the OPC:
- removing the cage;
- changing the dampers;
- swapping the engine mounts with the .1 hydraulic ones;
- reinstalling the ARB;
- checking various bolts.
Result the noise is still there.

My car was on Manthey's lift 10 days ago for a geo setup and no lower arms play was found.

I'm pretty sure is something related to the rear springs or top mounts.
