How the Porsche Addiction Started...
So, Returning from Smokies today, where I see so many people completely infatuated with Porsche's , it made me think back to how my own infatuation started. Coincidentally, this afternoon I'm helping my parents clean out their house I found some old pictures of me from high school, and one of those pictures was of the very first Porsche I got to drive... A guards red 1961 356B convertible. This was a very special car and I was only able to drive it on special occasions, including senior prom for example. my best buddy also got to drive his dad's 1989 911 guards red convertible to prom.
That night i dropped my date off early, and my buddy and I went racing around with our matching red Porsche's... I realize today how screwed up my priorities already were (no pun intended).
Seeing how much I liked this car, my dad purchased a second much less valuable 356C coupe in blue. This had a high compression engine which always had problems starting, but great front disc brakes which made the car feel almost like a modern car, unlike the 356B. I got to drive that one a lot more, including to school, as it wasn't in perfect condition. In fact, in the cold Michigan winters most of the kids in my class helped me jumpstart the car on winter afternoons when the 6 V system couldn't hold a charge during the day in the freezing cold weather.
I learned what real weight bias meant already back then.. I must have spun the car so many times in the snow and ice... Sometimes even on dry roads... I once swerved to avoid a deer and ended up in a ditch which miraculously was smooth enough to drive out of... The short of the story is somehow, I survived and so did the car, and no one ever was the wiser of the crazy things I did in it.

Great pictures - even better that you kept the photographs all these years and that they survived. I understand how you caught the bug, my dad owned a pair of Alfa Romeo 1600 veloces. Unfortunately I don't have pictures but the memories are with me forever.

I got a lift from my mate's dad's red 924 home from a teenage 'nightclub' at like 7 pm closing. He did a burn out away but then had to stop at a red light about 20 yards later.

I bought my first 356 in Torino Italy for $200 And rebuilt it in my courtyard much to the chagrin of my neighbors. From there it's been a series of 356s 911's and Now a GT three. Just had a beautiful drive in the Kentucky spring in my 356 ROADSTER

20 years ago when I was 8, my father bought his first Porsche which was a big goal/achievement for him. A 1999 996 Carrera 4 Coupe, dark blue on tan interior 6 speed. Bought sight unseen brand new from Champion and shipped to Seattle where we were living at the time. Have fond memories of climbing into the back seat and hearing the flat 6 engine. Didn't realize it then but the seeds had been planted, he'd move on to the 997 and other Porsches/911s over time which only brought me closer to the brand
When I got fortunate enough to start shopping for a higher end sports car within the last year or so for myself, I always knew it had to be a 911
The best part of all of this for me is the memories I have and I'll never forget with my father in these 911s, it's been a close bond we share for 20 years... The pinnacle so far has been our euro delivery we had talked about doing for the last 10 years which was checked off the bucket list earlier this month

Strangely.. that town was so conservative, and the parents kept such a tight watch over the kids, that there was actually very little drinking. When it happened it was in the basement of parents homes, and no one was allowed to leave until morning. Even prom night I think we didn't drink... I know.. crazy but (mostly) true.

Are there many Italian people in MI?
Anyways, it started w/ the first Porsche for the family, a Cayenne, in 2004. Only 'sports' car prior to that was a SL500. Seeing CGTs in the dealership are memories I still have.

Mine started at '16. I always wanted a 911. I bought my dad's Martini and Rossi '77 924. In 1979 at 23. And so it began.

79 911 SC
My love for Porsche’s began when I was 12 and saw a brand new white 1983 911 SC targa with wire Fuchs and navy interior. He did not buy that car because I made such a scene over the car at the dealership, he left embarrassed. A year later he bought a used GR 79 SC. I thankfully learned a little Self-control. My dad let me drive his 911 all the time. I was 16 and my buddy Steve (944) and I would spend the day detailing and then go cruising around Jackson, MS.

Grew up watching highlights of the endurance races from Europe and North America featuring the dominant 962 and the the Rothmans Turbo Cup on TV here in Canada.
I read all the car magazines. Had brochures etc. Knew I wanted a Porsche.
Went to Europe in 92 with my folks when I was 18. We each could pick one thing to see and we'd do it as a family. I picked the Porsche Museum. The old one.
Spent a night in Heidelburg with 50+ Porsches in the parking lot. Wouldn't you know it the local Porsche club was having an event at Hockenheim the next day. I climbed on the roof of a concession stand and watched the cars go by.
The need was strong.

riding in the back of a green 964 - i was like 10 y/o or so.
first sports car ride ever.
but i never was into Porsche. (we all had to little money - so i did what plenty of us "driving-drivers" did before P - driven all kinds of E30 - E92 M3´s)
than there came the money and a coincident of a good deal.
a 997.1 Cup.
and so it began.
sold it after a couple of operating hours. bought a GT4, RS, RS, RS, GT4 CS, RS - this should and will never end.

My best friends dad was our soccer coach and neighbor. He had a red 944 which we drove to practice and games in. I remember my first ride in it sitting in the front seat. Wow. The power was incredible. My love of sports cars started right then and there.
