Default Llumar vs Xpel

Want to do the bumper and the hood. Llumar installer is nearby where for the Xpel I would need to go long way and stay overnight.

Xpel is a well known product but is it any better than other foils? It is only a piece of plastic bag at the end...

Thanks for inputs.

I think the quality of the installer is what you should prioritize. Both products are good, base you decision on which installer will do a better job.

Installer quality makes a big difference. In my experience XPEL > Suntek > Llumar in terms of films, but they are all close.

The only difference I am aware of between Suntek and Llumar is Llumar has hydrophobic properties. Both films are manufactured by Eastman Chemicals and are otherwise the same. I prefer Xpel Ultimate. Suntek / Llumar may have a tad more clarity but not enough over Xpel to make me use them. End of day the installer is everything.

Suntek has the best optical clarity and it just as durable as the others. I only use Suntek on everything. It also doesn't yellow as quickly as Xpel (which is a function of the glue).

I've had 5 cars w/Suntek and it ALWAYS yellows in less than a year. Of course it's worse on light color cars, which is what I tend to buy. My last 2 cars are XPEL and no yellowing, one with a few years on it now.

I agree SunTek has the best optical clarity, but I'll trade that for a non-yellowing PPF.

Maybe Moe from Glistingperfection can chime in. I was told by Moe that he uses Suntek and Xpel, but prefers Suntek.

I used Suntek in mine. Xpel is thicker but only due to the adhesive. The actual material thickness is the same. I prefer the optical clarity of Suntek due to less adhesive but I didn't have any issue with material adhesion to my car. My installer initially installed Xpel because they ran out of Suntek materials. They asked me to try it and they just don't want me to drive the car without any HPF. They took it off and installed Suntek as soon as they replenished their stocks. Since I've got both installed on the same car, I can say that I prefer Suntek.

Suntek Ultra and LLumar Platinum are literally the exact same film. They just come in different packaging. Both are owned by Eastman Chemicals.

Personally, XPEL was the market leader, but now other brands have caught up. Remember that XPEL Ultimate came out in 2013. Suntek Ultra and Llumar Platinum came out in 2017. With that said, all are good enough films...install quality is most important.

Just put both Xpel and Suntek film on the same panel, you'll see the clear difference in clarity and non-orange-peel

There was a guy that used to do PPF in the Dallas area, named Norm (forget the shop name). I took my 13 911 S to him and he told me "remember, this is paint protection, not paint perfection" I understand people want clarity, no orange peel, etc, but what you really want is something to protect your paint from crap that gets thrown at your car from the road. Had Xpel on my 16 GT3, and it took a beating, but never damaged the paint. Did Suntek this time around on my Macan and 18 GT3, and I'm worried. Didn't take long for the Macan to take some debris kicked up from another car to break through the Suntek film and damage it. It wasn't a big rock neither. I'm hoping it was just some random thing with angles, speed, and the such to do that. Guess I'll find out the first time my GT3 gets to the track. Having had both, I'd switch back to Xpel in a heartbeat.

Ask for Xpel ultimate plus. It’s new. They don’t really talk about it unless you ask.

I have Suntek on my GR for 2 years now and NO yellowing so far. I will use Suntek again on my GT3T when as soon as it arrives.

May also want to look at Clearguard Nano SR as an option!
