991.2 owners thoughts on R8 RWS or wait for 718 GT4/RS
For weekend fun cars I currently have a GT3 Touring and a Civic Type R. Should I wait for the GT4 or is that pointless since it will be too similar to a GT3 light package with a sweet mid engine setup. Then my dealer had me thinking about a R8 rws.
So which combination is better.
GT3 Touring & R8 RWS
GT3 Touring & GT4 /RS(if happens).
or
Just buy the R8 RWS and trade in for GT4 later. The problem would be if it comes at the same time.

Then decide to trade later if some thing interesting pops up.
Or- look for a slightly used/low mileage McLaren 570S

Have driven the R8 and owned a GT4. Folks here are really tough on the R8. I get it, it's a Porsche forum. But it's an outstanding car and I've come close to buying one, as recent as last month. I think the RWD version will be pretty darn nice. I'm tempted myself. If the RWD R8 and the GT4 RS (in my vision) were both coming out soon, I'd tell you GT4 RS. But since we don't know what is in store for the new GT4 (RS?), the RWD R8 is looking like a really good way to go. With this said, this is a weird comparison, because both of these cars will be *very* different.

The McLaren would be a burden to service due to no local dealers for me. I like my prior R8 and perhaps it'll be even better with rear wheel drive. Due to the limiting volume it's one of those things to order now or miss it. I use my Turismo as daily so both would be secandary nice weather cars. The problem is if it's not a Porches there's always something dissappointing because I use ithe p-cars as a benchmark.

I just got an R8 v10 plus to use till I get the .2 RS . I can tell you, that car is amazing . the engine sound, handling, power delivery all great . I can't comment on rwd , but overall R8 is a very impressive car

Actually tempted myself to grab a RWS. Just not sure I will enjoy it after my 430. I can get an allocation which is a nice change from Porsche world. Only 300 coming to the states and all I had to do was call one dealer.

^Not hearing great things in regards to if it makes that big of a difference. From my understanding- they took out very little weight which it really needed to.
In the end- will still depreciate along same curve as the others' despite the limited numbers
Shame - because so much potential. Shed a couple more hundred lbs and bring back the Gated manual.

none of the R8 RWS reviews I've seen have been very flattering of the car ... I'd wait (if you are low enough on the list) for GT4 ... with a de-tuned 4.0L in it, it should be fun to say the least!

So far I like it... and thinking of one but not fully committed yet and in no rush. Here's the specs/options ordering availability for the US versions.... pretty short.

Thanks for everyone’s thoughts and glad to see the R8 price book. Did that just come out today? Taxes added to the depreciation makes it bad. I’m kinda curious if I take the gt4 or gt3 when they’re park next to one another. If the gt4 is a 2020 model the rws makes sense now. If the gt4 comes next spring playing musical cars doesn’t make sense especially if delivery is late summer.

R8 RWS:
535hp RWD V10 Mid engine
~140 base price
Not sure why we would have an argument? Throw some seats in it and an exhaust and tires and you're in an awesome spot.
