What is academic? Didn't more and more people begin discussing about car performances at Ring as an indicator of the potential of a car in the last years? Didn't more and more car makers begin announcing their best laps with new models in the recent times? Don't you think this is aimed to commercial purposes?
Porsche was the first and is the only one developing cars (also) at Ring ...and this is one thing , another thing is that competitors look for a sort of consecration by going close to or improving what achieved by Porsche (which is the benchmark), in many cases with non stock cars ...first example coming to my mind is Aventador SV, that's what I mean by 'stacking the deck'.
Ferrari is testing 488Pista at Ring..you can bet that if they do better than 6.47 they will declare an official Ring lap time, otherwise they will come back to Maranello.

I'm not really interested to academics for myself...just buy what I try and know...and bring out 99% in the car

I didn't catch...could you explain? Maybe I didn't express well myself since english is not obviously my first Language
What do you mean by 'sedated car'?

In regards to porsche publishing the 16 RS time...they don't sell those anymore so do not ever expect to see a 918 time either beyond the one they laid down.

Track tarmac, tires, software, more track style suspension...lots of ways to eke out 1-2 seconds over 100+ turns.

I think there was more left in the 16RS but it's undeniably slower than the new RS.

.1RS vs .2GT3? A better debate as to which is better...but the .1RS is more tunable for sure.

a car without feel, feedback, without those things that make a car fun to drive.

people don't realize how capable is .1RS (a stock .1RS) with the right alignment and the right tyre (Trofeo R)

Not to mention what the value of the RS (any RS) will be as opposed to the regular GT3 in a few years.

Well, exactly what I was trying to explain..

" in ideal conditions, with 14 degree Celsius ambient and 18 degree Celsius track temperature...At the Nürburgring the 911 GT3 RS was equipped with the latest generation of Michelin Pilot Sport tyres. Optimised especially for track day use, the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R"

Not surprised buy the lap time in itself given external factors plus tyres...and apple to apple the gap with .1 can't be 25 seconds

Wow! What an amazing display of engineering excellence. Boggles the mind that Porsche can get this kind of giant slaying performance from a 6 cylinder, normally aspirated engine. Such a feat! Although I'll never be able to drive at the level these brave souls do, it's nice to now just how capable these awesome cars are. Congratulations Porsche. This kind of performance is what keeps me coming back! There truly is no substitute!!
