Default 911R Shift **** Question

Hi there - I know a few people on here have these: https://www.suncoastparts.com/produc...1911RKNOB.html

My question is, does the **** portion screw on/off or do I need to change the entire boot assembly? My preference would be to keep the existing boot in my Touring and just replace the **** portion (the boot on the 911R has bright stitching which doesn't match the rest of my stitching).

Many thanks in advance.

No first hand experience but heard multiple times that you gotta change the entire boot assembly.

I have done the change and unless you want to try and disassemble the kit yourself the techs won't do it. It's a very simple change over as is which includes the boot and ****, but to disassemble it will be a project. I actually like the difference in stitching as it really draws the eye to the manual gear shift. You could try to dye the stitching while on the boot? Not sure how that would go......

thanks for the replies. nothing is easy huh

@race7117 - do you happen to have a pic of your interior handy? I'm thinking the mismatched stitching would bug me no end..

Because it's on the center console it really doesn't mismatch that badly, it fact it tends to blend in. In photos from a distance to get other leather included washes out the color and it's hard to tell the difference, also the light gets picked up by the black thread in the Touring so again looks lighter in photos than it does in real life. If you are ever in Denver I can show you in person!

I've seen a few YouTube videos of shifter swaps and the gear **** is definitely removable. It's held on by a lock ring.

I wish Function First made a CF ****. I really like the CR 911 R set-up but prefer the design from Function First. It just has a great feel

Of course I first got the same answers as you guys.
All I can say is never take no for an answer from mechanics on things like this.
It do not remember the exact trick, but it is a snap on thing.
Can be released with a little turn and squeeze or something like that.
Tried around with a group of the Porsche mechanics and then somehow one of the guys figured it out after a smart comment from me.

Here is pic of how it looks disassembled

^Looks like if you get under the boot you should be able to snap it off

There is a lock ring you twist to get the boot/shifter off the shaft. And then you just press those tabs in to pull the **** off.
