Just for perspective, Hamilton's lap record at Spa in 2017 was set in qualifying, on ultra soft tires, with minimal fuel and, of course, Mercedes always turns up the wick for qualifying. Also, the minimum car weight for F1 is 1614 lbs, including the driver, which means that compared to the modified 919 the F1 car by itself has a weight advantage of almost 400 lbs.

Whether it would win a head to head or not, the 919 Evo's performance at Spa is still pretty impressive. I'm looking forward to seeing it run at Laguna.

F1 cars still have minimum weight, fuel flow, aero restrictions etc - if these were taken away it would be fascinating to see how fast they could go. the Mercedes 'party mode" myth seems to have been overstated given the qualifying performance in Bahrain.

Take [just] the fuel flow limit off a current F1 car and it could go significantly faster....

I would really like to know how many G's, on all axis this car can generate on this track!
It must be very impressive.

It reminds me the Peugeot 905 Evo 2, both for the style and history:

F1 is the pinnacle of Motorsport, I don’t think it needs defending. The fact that Porsche used it as a benchmark shows the respect it deserves. What the 919 is doing is truly impressive!

I guess it depends on the race. An LMP car is designed to be driven at 100% for hours on end. An F1 car typically drives at about 80% for an hour or so. Would one even last at 100% for 24 hours?

LMP cars still need to manage tires and fuel, as do F1 cars.

I think that it will be a little bit difficult of doing this because Laguna Seca is a tight track and an F1 car is smaller with less aerodynamic resistance than an LMP1 car. I'm looking forward to see what it will happen!

Yes! Stefan Bellof's record is still a target after all these years.

I've done some fun things in my life but I actually got to drive the 2017 LMP1 car at the simulator in Weissach yesterday. To say that the aero and the visuals are impossible to compute is accurate. Having raced some in LMP3 and GT cars...LMP1 is far beyond. Especially with the 4WD and torque vectoring. I drove a track totally foreign to me but eventually via live telemetry and data coaching I got some friendly tips like "don't be a pu__y that turn is flat"

No pics allowed but will have some official stuff in May for everyone.

Me too. The way the car launches from 2nd through 4th gears is insanity. If you go full throttle in 3rd the AWD torque just takes you instantly to Redline. I ride an S1000RR and it's like that but faster
