Three Wheelin'
Okay- I have had my baby since end of November. Weather in Chicago was pretty good for a month but was vacationing/traveling for almost the whole time. Here I sit with 700 miles and the weather does not look promising for the next few weeks. This is BS but I made my bed.
It is time to look for a destination to store my .2 for the Winter where I can fly out 3-4 times a Winter and enjoy her on some really good roads. My Sister in Law sold her home on Hermosa Beach and bought a place in the Hamptons so neither location would probably be ideal. My Wife spends a lot of time in San Francisco and we have friends there with a home in Napa so thinking that may be best. Getting to NC/SC easy from Chicago.
Seeking some advice from this forum. As soon as i decide on a location, for next year, will reach out to see if any one could help out with storage- not looking for a free ride but a trusted Winter home.
Thanks

Napa is a good option too. I would steer clear of SF. I would never park/drive my car in that **** hole. You can't even lock your car doors there anymore in fear that your window will get smashed.

yea....4MM would be nice, more like 12+ to get something westlake/eanes and doesnt need a remodel or 8+ on the city side. I've been outbid by several MM on the last few properties. All the good ones are off market too.

It's very difficult to find a 100% perfect combination of great roads, good weather and tolerable population. There are unbelievable roads I would absolutely drive over and over in both Southern and Northern California.
The good thing about your situation is you don't have to LIVE in the destination of choice, which I believe was the point. Yes, California is an enormous and insufferable pain in many ways, but it's hard to beat in two week doses. If I were looking for a place to jump in and out of for automotive fun in the winter specifically, it would be somewhere in California. For car fun in particular, the best part is the sheer variety of roads you can get to. Mountain passes, coastal drives, desert canyons, winding forests...all accessible in a day or so. That's really not an option anywhere else. Plenty of tracks too.
I'm in the midwest as well, so that's my opinion having spent lots of time around the country finding fun roads to drive on.

Can’t help with any recommendations but I’ve had it wth the weather in the overly cold northeast. There are three to four usable months of the year.
Ortho Joe. My friends rant and rave about California. Politics aside is cali that bad? My wife and I are seriously considering relocating to Northern California, Texas or maybe Florida simply because of the weather.

In all reality, with cost of shipping car AND having best chance of catching GREAT weather during the winter months you're looking at FL or AZ in my opinion.
I think AZ may be the best option and good car scene too. Phoenix has a lot to do in a concentrated area overall. FL is huge and I hear the driving roads aren't great.
CA will cost more to ship car to and fly too as well. Traffic sucks in many areas too.
Don't think you're looking to track from previous comments.
Worth shipping a car to drive 3-4 times a winter?? Another consideration. You're talking approx $1,200 each way enclosed.
