Rear visibility on winged 991.2
I'm helping a friend spec a 991.2 GT3 allocation. He plans to use it as a DD, and is contemplating the choice between Touring and non-Touring. While he prefers the look of the winged version, he's wondering how significantly the wing will impair rearward visibility, assuming it's set to its flattest possible position. He's driven my 996 GT3 (with RS wing) and didn't find that to be a problem, but of course the new car will have different wing geometry. I'd appreciate feedback from those that have seat time in the winged version of the 1.2 in actual road usage, as opposed to track.
On a separate note, the absence of intake scoops on the Touring package made me recall an interview with one of the Porsche motorsports managers (may have been AP, but don't recall exactly) regarding the RS intake scoop on the 996 GT3. He stated the scoop produced a measurable ram air effect, by which the car gained enough HP at speeds > 100 MPH to achieve a couple extra MPH at the end of the straight on one particular test track. Not that it would matter for a DD, but have there been any statements by Porsche regarding the performance impact of the intake scoops on the non-Touring 1.2, or the absence of them on the Touring version?

mrhamamg - That's a very good pic and thanks for posting. Is your wing set to the flat position in that pic, or do you have some rake dialed in?

It is at first a little disconcerting to have that wing going across right in the middle of your field of view. But as you use it, it becomes obvious it really does not impair your ability to see cars coming up to you. You'll still be able to see what you need to see. One added advantage is that the wing blocks headlights from glaring at you in your rear view mirror. And I got the dimming option, darn it!

All 991.2 US Spec GT3 come with a decent backup camera. That helps a lot when parking. Once you're on the road, you get excellent visibility out of the rest of the windows for daily driving. I've only noticed the wing obstructing a car once or twice in my first 2000 miles. Nothing I would be overly concerned about.
The ram air scoops add 25hp at top speed (198-199mph). Nothing to get real excited about. I definitely would not buy a wing'ed GT3 just because of the air scoops. The wing downforce probably has a bigger impact, but that would only be noticed by a very experienced driver on a track.
So for most people, the choice between the standard GT3 and the touring is mostly about looks. Tell you friend to get the one he likes.

IMHO it definitely impairs visibility, though the only time that really matters to me is if I'm not sure the vehicle behind me is LEO w/o out radar/laser active. I'm generally driving on low traffic two lane hwy and interstate, though, so it doesn't matter much to me. If I was DD I would have strongly considered touring, but that's just me.

Agree that wing blocks much of the rearview but I just use that as an excuse to drive slightly faster than traffic and not concern myself much with those behind me. I would like to get a .2 RS decklid/wing and then remove the wing so I can just have the little ducktail though I know that raises an additional set of arguments. That would increase rear vision though so maybe a tad bit of justification....
Soon, I would like to add the slightly curved PORSCHE script to the top of my wing because I bet that looks great in the rearview mirror.....pic anyone?

The wing totally obstructs the middle of the rear view but you get used to it and frankly rearward visibility ranks about 999th out of 1,000 factors to consider when buying a GT3. It’s a PITA at first but quickly becomes an afterthought.
