Default Track wheels, tyres and wing

Having searched this forum at length and given that there are a few new options available I have not been able to find answers to a few queries I have on this topic.
I have tracked my .1 GT3 hard since new in Aug 15.
Just been through the finger follower engine warranty exchange wherein the car was off the road for 2 months.
Happily, I’m returning to the track next weekend and thoughts have turned back to upgrades I had previously planned.
Forgeline 19’s with Hoosier R7’s &
Crawford Wing (because of the ease of install/cost/performance equation).
However, as many of you will be aware, Hoosier have recently announced the R7 in 20 inch will be available to suit the GT3.
Is the 20 inch a better option?
Any thoughts on the APR Performance GTC-500 wing vs the Crawford? I am not interested in debating looks, only performance.
If I did spring the $ for the Cup wing install, is there a performance benefit over the Crawford or GTC?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Only informed enough to share feedback on the 20" vs. 19" Hoosier debate. The 19" tires will be better if you do not have clearance issues. The benefits to the 20" Hoosiers, is now for PCCB cars, we don't have to muck up our front calipers with shallow drum 19" wheels. Stick with the 19's for less unsprung mass when possible. I however will be switching to the 20" Hoosier tires, as they now offer them in our oem GT3 sizes.

Best Regards,
Dave

I am running 19" forgelines and Hoosiers and they are better at track.

Thanks Dave and porscheflat6 appreciate your thoughts.
I have steel brakes so the lower mass and price of the 19’s will be of benefit.

There are 19inch full slick Yokos that work for the car. Also you can custom order a wing I have an oversized voltex wing that provides a lot of downforce. So much it actually pushes the plastic rear window off. I have ordered an even bigger wing haha

Mine is not an RS so unfortunately the mounts don't work for that type of wing unless I change the whole lid.

You should consider getting a cup car lid/wing setup. Not sure about your home track but the downforce is real for me. The aero improvements to my car probably helped shave 2 seconds on a 2 minute track. Difference between braking for the final sweeper and going all out.

Our local track is reasonably short and quite technical around 1:20 per lap and rear grip is the limiting factor so I am definitely looking at wing options.

This is the Crawford wing that connects to the existing mounts.

Another option is the APR GTC-500.

Based on what I see the APR looks better and seems adjustable, I would still recommend looking at the cup car wing and replacing the boot leg as that has proven downforce specific to the car.

I think the wing matters more for high speed tracks. Helps me take a corner from 140kph to 160kph also helps tremendously in braking I can brake on the main straight a little later and hit a higher top speed.

Even tough our track is quiet technical we have 2 "straights" where I am braking from 160-170km/h.
I am up against 2 guys with Cup cars (997 & 991) and another heavily modded 996 GT3 who can all lap in the 16's whereas I am in the 19's.
Trying to close the gap!

Hi all,
I’m adding to this thread from April as I thought that a few of you may be interested in my progress on the updates I had planned.
The mods prior to my original post included the following:
1. BBi Seat Base and Slider Kit with Cobra Suzuka Pro (removed passenger seat)
2. Akrapovic Raceline Exhaust System

Mods post my OP:
1. APR Performance GTC-500 Wing
2. Pirelli Trofeo R (I like their more progressive nature over the MPSC2’s)
3. BBi Street Cup Suspension Package

I have managed to drop my times from the mid 19’s to an 18.06.
As I made the changes 1 at a time, I can report that the biggest improvement so far has been the wing. Now I can see out of the rear view mirror as well!
The suspension package needs setup time as it was rushed a bit before the last track day so I will try that with new Trofeo R’s next as the 18.0 was achieved on tyres that were well past their best.
I have ordered the Forgeline GS1R 19” wheels and Hoosier R7’s. They arrive next week. This will be very interesting.
I am hoping that this will give me another second and put me into the low 17’s, maybe even 16’s.

Here’s a couple of pics from the last event.
Cheers,
Lawrence

Nice!

What’s part of the BBI suspension package?
maybe add the diffuser?

Thanks, I’m really happy with the way it’s developing.
The BBi suspension package is this one in the photo below.
I need to add the bump steer kit.
Also needs some time to get it setup properly. Will do that once the new wheels are here.
I’ll take a look at upgrading the diffuser.
What are your thoughts on a bigger front splitter and/or canards?
My only reservation with the canards is drilling holes in the fender!
