Excessive white smoke on start up
A few puffs of white smoke on start up is something I'm used to with Porsches, typically after sitting idle for a few days. I've seen some start up exhaust smoke w/ the GT3 but nothing I'd say was excessive until today. Car had been sitting idle since last weekend and when starting up there was a big plume of white smoke that continued for a few seconds and made quite a cloud. Car has 600 miles, no revs above 4-5K. I decided not to drive the car at that point and shut it down. Temps here in the 60s today but during the week low 50s at night. I called the dealer and will have them take a look at it but I thought I'd ask for any thoughts here before I decided to drive the car to the dealer or flat bed it in. Thanks in advance.

All is normal, this is well known in Porsche world.
This is an artifact of having a Horizontal opposed engine configuration, the valves are topside angled downward. When allowed to sit a while, oil will drain then pool on the intake valves. Upon starting, the first time the intake valve opens that pooled oil enters the combustion chamber and you get your plume.
With only 600 miles, the rings are not fully seated either some blow by is expected

Quite normal. After a drive, let the engine idle for a minute or two before switching off. You may find the next startup to be smoke free.

Ok thanks. I am used to this in my other Porsches but not this quantity that it fills the garage.

Of my (6) Pirsches I have had some have smoked, some not, and some more than others'. Never had issues with any of them. My .2 has around 700 miles and does not smoke nor even after a few 100 miles does it have and black soot in the tail pipes. What does this mean?? Probably nothing

My 2006 and 2009 C4Ss did not smoke, on start-up, at all. So, they always got backed into the garage. My 2014 GT3 smoked noticeably, about one in 5-10 starts. It was bad enough that I parked it nose-in. Ironically, it took remarkably little oil. I think that I only had to add 1/4 of a quart before the 12k and between the 12k and 24k services and NONE after that (it was just getting close to adding when it had it's 36k, 48k, and 60k services. When the 2014 customers got "gifted" a visit to the Experience Center, in Atlanta, the technician we talked to told us that it happened more in GT3s because the piston skirt was so short. From what I've noticed on Rennlist, the E-series engines did this the most and the Fs and Gs a little less so. So, it's interesting that there's a 991.2 GT3 that's smoking. I had been thinking that my Touring was going to get backed into the garage - my wife heads out for work, in the morning, about 2 minutes after I do and I don't want to give her a smoky garage.
