Default Will the Valkyre AMR Pro beat 6:11.13

The 1100 HP track version of the Valkyrie was just unveiled. Do you guys think it'll be driven to usurp Stefan Bellof's 6:11.13? With 500 more horsepower in a 400lb heavier chassis, plus a full ground effect underbody, the possibility is there to dethrone the 956.

Quite likely. I think the order will be Valkyrie > 956 > AMG ONE

Doesn't look to have enough ground clearance for the Ring. Maybe it's adjustable, but even just a bit higher will significantly reduce downforce. I guess the 956 was able to make it around, so it should be made to work...

No, I suspect not. The course was shorter for the 956 (two miles shorter IIRC).

Sounds like it was shorter than the course prior to 1983, but not shorter than current NOS without GP track (20.8km or 12.9 miles):

Frankly I think that as a sign of respect to Stefan Bellof's memory and achievement no one should attempt to break the record ... it would be a hollow and worthless "victory", an insult to the memory of a great driver and car!

They wouldn’t be talking about it if they didn’t think they could break it.

Adrian Newey talks about the Valkery effort in his book. It essentially grew out of the no rules X2010 concept cars Newey did for Grand Turismo- they took that no-holds barred approach to an F1 car and realized that they could give it two seats and a number plate- that’s the design they took to Aston, and he’s continuing to tweak aero and design to optimize it.

Start with that vision, add the massive leaps in aero and composites over the last three decades, add banned F1 technologies that will be used from active suspension to active aero, add probably the greatest race car designer of all time with one last thing to prove... Yea, that record’s going down.

Or at least it will if they can find someone half as crazy as Bellof, which honestly might be a problem. He drove the wheels off the 956 that day, utterly unbelievable. It’s like he found a short-cut across the track. I just wish we had video.

exactly why they should honor the man's memory and leave his record in place...

Time marches on. The fact that his record will have stood for at least 35 years is amazing enough. Certainly no dishonor to pass him after that many years...

Finding a cohesive man/machine combo to smash the record is the greatest honor we can give.

A driver like him would want the record to be broken, would want someone else to let it all out and break new ground.

I don't think there's anyone currently that combines his skill and fearlessness, even so, the Valkyrie is at a huge advantage.

Senna held track records after his death but that didn't stop the rest of the F1 world from trying to beat them....
