Seems Audi driving events allow closed windows!

Trakcar, perhaps set-up a new thread here with a poll for windows up or down , for DE only participants , ask folks to post car and group , likely not many green/blue here just a thought .

Saw your post in the track forum and I put my $0.02 in on the thread.

In talking to one local big track it is up to the event organizer which way is ran. So with an event group I am working with right now we are considering windows up for all our events.

Thanks Seth,
Hopefully more DE drivers will chime in as well.

There are many valid points being raised about safety, like your exit practice / plan.
Either way, I think many of us will feel safer, will be more comfortable, more alert and concentrated, book more events due to the climate being irrelevant and will drive in wet conditions more often with the windows up.

I'm looking into Audi Club at VIR now to see if I can make it up there.

Quote: Oliver Berg, Manager GT-Product Porsche
One option that is not recommended if you ever want to sell the car is air-conditioning delete. “Only 20 the 5,000 first generation 991 GT3 RS owners ticked the box for a/c delete,” said Oliver. “The fact is that while the 14kg weight saving might sound good on paper the discomfort you will experience when wearing a race suit and helmet on track in summer is simply not worth it. You will be hot and bothered and slower because you cannot concentrate as well compared to when you are cool and comfortable.”

In the same way that many race series now require mandatory window nets, tracking with windows up (marginally) helps keep the occupants' hands inside the car, at least in the initial phase of an impact.

That said, in some climates it's just not practical to drive with windows up. Glass isn't exactly the best protection material. If the car rolls or takes a side impact, the position of that window will be moot.

Shouldn't this be a discretionary issue?

Absolutely!
Id rather have a glass window then a Lexan one. Try breaking car glass, its very difficult even with a hammer or brick.
Its very easy with the right tool and should be part of the rescue tools.

Our track, Area 27, primarily runs with the windows closed and the front car use turn signals to let the car behind know they can pass.

Running with windows open and doing point by is optional.

That's how it should be everywhere.
In Europe its mandatory windows closed, but I agree with Crex and Area 27, should be discretionary.
