991.1 GT3 vs GTS
#16
I own a 991.1 GTS4 manual and use as my daily driver (even in snow - quite fun actually!) and have a 991.2 GT3. The GT3 is more visceral and sharper but less practical. I do carry kids, well mainly the younger one, (10 years old) in the back of the GTS. The 991.1 GTS is the last "regular" 911 with an NA engine. Sounds better than the 991.2 but slower, which is not a major issue in stop and go daily traffic. If you do not need the back seat practicality I would go with the GT3.

As I just found out GTS (50th or not) depreciate a LOT faster than a GT3. So you can look at that 2 ways, you can get a newer GTS and more options
than you will in a GT3 for a lot less . But that goes for after you buy it also. But how often do you go for long drives with your daughter? My kids at that age got bored after 2 minutes. Build a ledger and see what’s important to you.

I had a GT3. I got Turbo just to be able to take my kids to school and to all kids of things kids do. They love it, I love it, and the car is a much better driver than GT3. I was lucky enough that I could keep the GT3 but if I had to have only one of the two cars, it would have been the Turbo. GTS is as good as Turbo in most ways, so I'd recommend GTS over GT3 in this situation.

How about a 997TT 6spd Coupe? GT3 > GTS

Have you driven both? Vastly different driving experiences. If you prefer the manual and need to take folks around, the GTS is the way to go. Having said that, the GT3 is a blast on the track but takes some dedication if you have less than perfect roads.

Timely thread... I'm in the same situation. Really want a GT3 but hard to justify the @$30K more to get one over a GTS. I will never track it and my kids are grown and long gone but the GT3 is at my limits cost wise versus having some breathing room if I were to get the GTS. I've been thinking about this and every scenario I can come up with and these two things below keep surfacing....
^^ This is very true. Its a pay me now or pay me later situation. The GT3 will definitely hold its value over the GTS in 5+ years so by buying the GTS, youre basically paying for the depreciation over the next few years if you had to sell it, which is also harder to do than reselling a GT3. Pay $100K for a GTS now and it'll be worth $50K in 5 years, and a $130k GT3 will probably be worth $100k? Who knows, but you will obviously loose more $$ faster with the GTS.
^^ This is also a big one... I don't ever want to go outside and look at my GTS and think... Damn, I should have got the GT3! Not that I wouldn't be happy with a GTS, I just know myself, and I know that would probably happen over time.
Does that sound rational at all?? lol... Arrrgghhh.. !

I figure it makes sense to have something for all of us to go out and make memories with. She will ride in the car for hours without complaint.

I am struggling with a similar decision. For me its not the GTS but the T and the GT3, It's not at all comparing the mechanics but the usability and utility differences. As with anything there are compromises, my current family size cannot fit into any 911 but most would fit in the T. I have also found that when taking my kids out they could care less what we are driving but more where we are going. When I had a GTS they would of course prefer that but it wasn't a deal breaker if we didn't. Even now I tend to take out one at a time for special outings just like I do my wife and we could take the GT3 any of those times, or not. It would not be my daily so I am probably over thinking it.

As an owner of daily driver of a 16’ GTS, - it’s really this simple. I daily drive my GTS, and drive a lot.
However, I believe any choice ultimately comes down to getting what you actually WANT. Porsche’s or otherwise.
If you aren’t honest with yourself, you will end up disappointed with your choice.
