Do any .2 owners still like their .1 better??

Every car has pluses and minuses... We've identified that in many threads. I'm just wondering if any ex-GT3 991.1 owners have taken delivery of their new GT3 991.2 and actually liked the .1 one better? And if so, why?

One of the reasons this is important to me is that I'm scheduled for Euro Delivery this summer, and supposed to trade my .1 before I leave, so the transaction will be complete prior to my departure for Zuffenhausen. It just occurred to me that if, for some reason, I actually liked my .1 better than the .2, it would already be gone. That would be disturbing.

Just wondering if any .2 owners still prefer their .1 -- and if so, why?

Doubt anyone will like their .1 better. Congrats on your .2

Loved the 15 for 9500 miles and loving the 18 more.

The .2 is a slight improvement in almost every aspect- engine, steering, transmissions, suspension, low to mid-range torque, sound ect. Now- each one is just slightly improved but when you add them all together it is a difference. i will leave the front design alone because that is personal choice but the other aspects I think hard to argue. And the .1 is not any more raw than the .2.

Well if you end up experiencing buyer’s remorse, which I hope not, you can always trade back your .2 for any .1 and really not lose anything or maybe even profit.

Actually I in just a short time w/ the .2 my feeling is that it is a much better car in terms of suspension, low end torque, sound, rawness w/o coarseness, and design detail (naturally subjective). I knew rather quickly into .1 ownership I that it would be a transient experience. This time around I am far more impressed .

Endowment effect makes it tough to get a truly objective assessment. I assume they have them in Atlanta now? Do the GT3 experience if so and decide for yourself. But watch for the endowment Effect on the .1 :)

Other than the difference in money, there is no reason not to do he .2. If you are not sure keep the .1 until you get back.

Went from a 15 .1 to the 18 .2. You will not be disappointed.

sechsgang 02-14-2018 10:35 AM

No way you'll really be disappointed in this move. It's a whole other debate with an RS to 991.2 3 or 991.2 3 to RS, but this one seems to be pretty unanimous. Go with confidence, you'll love it!

Dr.Bill 02-14-2018 11:25 AM

Only you can decide which you prefer.
I'd keep the .1 until you get the .2 - then decide.

.2 always better than .1. Only reason not to upgrade is $$$$ which is a valid debatable point whether the price delta is worth the improvement to a particular individual.

My .2 is an all around better car than my .1 and I am vey happy with it. Now for the raw part, the .1 had more mechanical noises coming from the valvetrain and flywheel, but is that what makes a car more raw? The GT2RS I guess is not raw at all since it is so quiet, even the exhaust note is tame because of the turbos. The raw comments always make me smile because it is such a subjective comment, I'll take a little less "raw"car for a faster car any day of the week.
OP, I do not prefer my .1 over my new .2 at all, there is not one single thing that I would change on my .2 to make it like my .1.

mooty 02-14-2018 02:47 PM

.2 is technically better.
which looks better, depends on whose looking at it.
but using the expression "raw" on .2 or .1 is incorrect. perhaps you have never driven a raw car....

Exactly. For better or worse, each generation gets more and more refined. The 991.2 GT3 may be the best 911 so far. At the same time, it may not be the best GT3 ever.
