Rainy day project- $59 pepita(ish) inserts
Rainy day in MS today and I have been considering ordering pepita inserts. To try on the look, I ran to our local fabric store, grabbed the closest thing to pepita upholstery they had in stock as well as some industrial velcro. $59 (total cost for supplies to complete both seats) and about 40 minutes later I have one insert "completed". The Rennlist crowd won't mistake it for a factory or high-$ aftermarket piece but it came out fairly well. I do not own a sewing machine but I plan to at least have the stitched seams that dip into the foam creases stitched (this should also help with leveling everything up as it is hard to hide a slope to this repeating pattern).
They also stock some cool tartan varieties (and some superhero and dinosaur selections) so I may edit this posting soon with additional inserts. Cars are fun!
Installed; creases tucked into foam slots should be a stitched line (will correct when have access to sewing machine). Climbed in and out dozen or so times and material is staying put thanks to industrial velcro underneath.
2.5 yards of material will easily complete both seats

$59? wow that's pretty damn impressive man. I paid over 3k for mine lol
keep in mind your material will wear quicker as the material Porsche uses is made from the same yarn as the seat belts. also, their material has some uv protection. but in the end of the day, for $59, it looks pretty damn good.

You're my kind of dude.. you sound like a lot of fun on a DIY date..
Excellent work, half the fun is the work itself. I'm going to have to go full-pasha if everyone catches on how easy these are to DIY.. seems like every other car is pepita!
Next level is figuring out how to remove the aluminum trim on Dash and doors and fabric wrap that to match the seats!

When can we put our order in? I got first dibs.....

OK, I'm gonna kill myself now, since I shelled over 8K for this (18 way seats, which may require more work and double the cost, or more for perhaps a whopping ?? $200). Ugh...

I am planning to be a bit more precise with the passenger side cover, and actually trim it up nicely so that I can then make a template. I suspect I will be able to make a full set start to finish (trim upholstery to size, stitch the three seam lines that tuck into the foam cores, and stitch on the velcro border) in 20 minutes. GBM owners will of course have first dibs.
Then the fun begins with all of the other upholstery offerings at the local store.....

Without a doubt - BEST THREAD OF THE YEAR!
So fun to read this over "what's my car going to be worth" blah nonsense.
Thank you for sharing and thank you for daring to do it!

Ok, you need to sell these at 500 bucks a set or something...you'd undercut the competition by a ton. Even if the fit and finish is a little off, it's generally a good trade off for a hell of a value.

Last photos for the evening.....I promise I won't show every set on here but I believe this does truly look good inside the GBM, plus a bit more traditional than the Star Wars set.
