I decided to spend the weekend polishing my GT3. This is the first time i have used a dual action polisher on the car, and the results are amazing. Using the advice Ryan (RL’er I bought my GT3 from), I decided to grow a pair and give it a go. I used a Porter Cable 7424XP dual action polisher, Meguiars M105 and M205, and a variety of pads. The process went like this:

1. Wash and dry car
2. Clay car
3. Compound car (m105)
4. Polish car (m205)
5. Wax car

Our GT3 paint is pretty hard, so it isn’t too easy to screw things up. Just go slow, and let the machine and products do the work. This was 15 hours, spread over 3 day. The key to doing something like this is not hurting the paint. Luckily, the clear coat on our cars is hard. So the above combo works great. On mine, i started to see very light swirls in direct sunlights. After compounding the car they were barely visible. After hitting it with the polishing stage, they almost all disappeared. That told me that i had taken off the bare minimum of clear coat. The paint really shines, and it has a glossy look to it. Ready for another driving season!

Congrats Rob! Looks great and indeed, growing a pair and broadening the experience is awesome. Recently did the same with centerlocks, bought the right tools and learned how to do it, now, piece of cake. What’s next?

Thanks! Tackling the centerlocks...ooh. “Hi honey, can you help me for a minute? Grab this handle and pull. Put your weight into it, babe. Come on!” I don’t know if i, or my wife have centerlocks in us, but good for you! Orthojoe’s avatar pretty much ruined me lol. I have done the oil, spark plugs, rear filters, and now paint, so i guess headers and a roll cage are probably next. If i could get the centerlocks off, brakes and lowering the car a bit would be next.

For me I gotta get one my own cars on the track. Love bashing someone elses car, but never my own. Maybe I’ll make a PCA event this year.....

Thanks guys. The paint is white (not metallic). I used Meguiars Gold Class liquid wax. Here is a pick before the car showed up 2 years ago. Looks as good as new.

Thanks! I was too. I did a dry run with our 2005 Lexus, and this was easier. Car is back to looking brand new again. Go for it. I can provide more details if anyone needs it.

I need to workout first! Take it on the track! Just get some track tape to protect the front, if you don’t have ppf. Go easy.
