I disagree that the 7 speed or GTS would solve the OP's observation.. Yes a more usable toque range at lower revs making it much more drive able at lower revs and lower speeds... but I took it that the OP was lamenting the fact that the "buzz" of a NA engine whist achieved at higher revs is practically unobtainable at lower speeds (local limits etc) due to the high gears, say one through three...

I for one, would be happy to trade a bit of top end speed (who does 300Km/hr anyway ?) for some closer spacing down low, even if it meant changing gears sooner and more often. Here is a gear ratio table shared previously by turbofreeFLAT6 I think.
The 991.2 Manual (assume 911R plus extra red line), is closer then the 997 (which I have) so looking forward to comparing. But I would still bring gears 1 to 4 a little closer again, particularly 2-4, but Im not a mechanical engineer, so not sure of the impact overall. Obviously a lot slower around higher speed tracks for one... So maybe keep the PDK geared as is and purposely constrain the manual for this purpose, acknowledging its not going to beat any lap records.

You got the predictable answers to your observation. You can change your driving style to better suit the engine and its strengths. Stay in lower gears longer, shift more frequently up and down to keep around 3500-5K w/o going nuts on the speed. The turbo engines are naturally lazier due to their low end torque and drivers simply lose the incentive to work the engine and transmission. Take time to adapt yourself to the car rather than expecting the car to adapt to you and then decide.

DId i do my research? All I heard was amazing reviews faultless car, incredible, best car 2017.

I have seen all the video's

Look i I am not saying it's not good, just not quite what I expected .

To get it to rev out you are going to fast for street, gearing is too tall imho

You should have looked for my and another OP I don' t remember the name

.1 GT3 /RS cons

are deadly boring under 5500 rpm

over 5500 rpm 3rd gear you re probably under police arrest or fines

Porsche should stop the 0-62 car n coffee game with manuals
and provide a shorter 2nd 3rd gear for street legal speed enjoyment

I never driven but I guess .1 GT4 and Spyder are even worse

anyway engine gets way better after 1k miles break in

p.s. practice with launch control, a modified exhaust and air filters to enjoy the pros
and dont ask me why after a no torque .1GT3 a torquey M4 I spent >200k for a GT3T

OP: give the car a chance--drive it hard for a month and see if you come out feeling differently? If not, promptly get rid of it. You'll not lose much (if at all).

Life is too short to be stuck with things you don't appreciate.

The second part of that statement proves the first part is correct.

The Spyder is a blast to drive on the street. Gearbox is awesome, power is great, gearing is fine.

All you folks who think these special Porsches suck should leave them for others to enjoy.

Not sure if the ratios are the same with manual and Pdk (I assume they can’t be since 6 vs 7 speed), but the short ratios in the 991.1 gt3 pdk make it a fun car on the streets. Red line in 2nd gear puts u at around 75 mph, which is not bad compared to many cars today. In addition if u shift around 6-7 k rpm, which is fun, u can go through the gears without going crazy fast

Shorter final drive would be nice, shorter gears 1-5 would be better cause then you can shorten the big 1-2 drop, close up the ratios from 1-4, and maintain the 200+mph cruising gear. It might not be faster at the track but it'll feel snappier and more fun at legal speeds...
only sorta the same issue as the GT3 specifically has lower gearing than regular Carreras, while the GT4 has the same longer gearing as the caymans.

I didn’t see the table that was provided (thanks!) when I posted, but it’s consistent with what I said. Does anyone have that info for the 991 gt3 manual for comparison, although it should be close to the 991 R?

991.2 GT3 manual gearbox is exactly the same as the 911R, literally the same parts.

God could drop a perfect car fashioned out of angels tears from the heavens and Rennlisters would find something to complain about it.

No idea how similar the gearing and torque are between the two cars, but I drove a 991 GT3 RS and it was awesome. It was on the street (well, twisty mountain roads). And it didn't seem like it was powerless lower in the RPM range. But it was a PDK. Does the manual transmission make any difference in the .2?

I think the manual has taller gears than in the Pdk. I’ve had turbos , supercharged and huge displacement engines through the years but my 991.1 Gt3 Pdk never felt slow or lack luster . Liked it so much I bought a .2 Gt3 Pdk. It’s without a doubt one of the very best cars I’ve ever owned and likely a keeper. Not trying to insult anyone but you really need to be into drivers cars to feel, appreciate and understand the Gt3 . Anyone imo who prefers the turbo 911 isn’t a car guy / girl.
