Gear shifter flexing under torque in 4th gear, on 991.2 GT3

Mine is a November 18 build as well. Tried duplicating the 4th gear issue and mine is solid. No movement. I had thought about installing a Numeric Racing shifter when I purchased the car in January. I had one in my 10 GT3 but at 5000 miles in I dont see any benefit.

You should reconsider as the Numeric shifter takes it to a whole new level
I, too, wondered how the OE shifting experience could be improved. The Numeric Shifter does just that. Even shorter throw, much tighter, rifle bolt precision, etc.

Mine too...
Jan 2018 'in service' date on a CPO car (<3,000 miles) with the same wobble / vibration. I've read the entire thread and understand those that think there is no 'issue', but I find the behavior odd and am not sure what to think. In addition to the small amount of gear lever movement, you can also 'feel' the gear mesh through the ****. It's only in 4th gear, and I was planning to have the dealership check it out on my next visit. When I was a kid driving a Z28 with a Hurst shifter, every gear vibrated and you could feel every change in torque and rpm. That said, when I could feel the mesh, actually feel the lever move as the teeth hit each other, it was time to check linkage adjustments, shift stops, etc. because if I didn't, sooner or later it would start popping out of gear, potentially damaging those high dollar nickel gears. Times change, and linkage actuated shifters have given way to cables in many applications, so the 'feel' of the shifter is less visceral, making this 'feeling' even harder to understand. It may be months before the car is due for service (and it's a three hour drive) so I'll let you all know what I discover.

Hi guys, I am new here on Rennlist and got aware of your thread from the German PFF Porsche forum.
Got some heavy problems with the gearbox wich lead to a mis-shift. I have the problem of a moving shifter in 5th gear. I brought the car to Porsche in May after the problem occured. They said its perfectly normal and no need for action an therefor let me go.
Cheers, Dirk

That is not normal - I would take it to another Porsche Dealer or speak with a regional representative (someone higher than the dealership).
Good luck!

Yeah, now THAT is abnormal. The movement everyone experiences in 4th is normal. That amount of sharp movement in 5th... nope. But it might be as simple as adjusting the cables that link the shifter to the gearbox.

Correct. This is completely different than the 4th-gear non-issue others have mentioned. Would have been better to start a separate thread.

Man.. my version of cool must be so different than yours.
When I see people do that, with their hand on the stick sometimes jiggling it back and forth as they brake in neutral from speed... they are often the types who drive leaned back, maybe with the other hand on top of the wheel or their elbow sticking out of the window. makes the hair on my neck stand on end.
Cool to me is when I see a driver sit upright, 9 and 3, bend at the elbows... then I know he actually understands how to drive.

hahaha.JK, of course.
Totally agree, premature synchro wear. Keep your hands off the shifter and your foot off the clutch.

I'm not too concerned at the moment Andreas, I will get it looked at at the next service. It is slightly disappointing to have any issues with a Porsche GT car, I always thought they were "special"...

Bumping this old thread. Now that it has been 3 years since the 6MT cars arrived, how is the transmissions holding up? How is the 4th gear flexing?
Has it ever been determined what causes this? Is it simply incorrect tolerances/manufacturing issue?
