Maybe we are all wrong. Maybe its a NA hybrid like the 918.

+1 all the PDK's (not just PDK-S) do this for exactly that reason (emissions/economy) - maddening in a sports car - I installed the Cobb PDK tune on my '15 GTS to overcome this...

Yep, this is the reason that the Manual carries a $700 higher Gas Guzzler tax than PDK. Well worth it to me - they can't force you to short shift the manual (although Corvette used to make you shift its manual from 1st to 4th if you didn't press the gas hard enough).

Does GT car volume production really have that much of an impact for a company like VAG when it comes to emission regulations? I just don't see that factoring into engine choice for cars as limited in production as the GT line.

Unfortunately, the standards don't apply at the conglomerate level (VW) - each brand has to qualify independently, afaik...

Maybe this is how Porsche intends their future lineup to be: Electric only drivetrains for the wifey's Porsche, NA combustion engines in the GT3/Halo models for us.
