Big fan of Waze as well. Finally getting native support in cars now, with Ford recently announcing support in Sync 3. All the Raptor owners around here rejoice.

Revisiting this thread. I've used the RAM system with their X-grip holder, and I find the footage that comes out of the Porsche Track App pretty useless due to all the micro vibrations transfered from the mount. Is there anything else for the iPhone X that will hold it in place better? I've heard that later phones suffers more due to image stabilisation not optimised for the sort of vibrations you get in a car. Any other ideas on how to get the footage from the Track App with the iPhone X liveable?

iOS 12 will support 3rd party map applications via CarPlay - Apple announced that this week…https://www.engadget.com/2018/06/04/...upport-ios-12/
so CarPlay will get more useful once iOS 12 is released - if history is any indication that should be in the Sept. '18 time frame - but AFAIK Apple has not released an actual date for iOS 12 - but that time frame is what they've done for the past 6-8 releases.

I just wish Apple Car Play was bluetooth. Hate having to plug it in. About half the time, I plug it in and then when leaving the car, forget the phone in the armrest holder. Wish I could just leave it in my pocket.

Wireless CarPlay is an option, but very few manufactures have picked it up - it's coming and I know a lot the infotainment hardware vendors now support it - given supply chain logistics I think you'll start to see wide spread adoption in most 2020 model year vehicles, but I don't honestly know...

personally I don't see the point in wireless CarPlay because I like having the phone charge while it's in the car, so plugging it in serves a dual purpose of getting data for the head unit, and charging the phone while it's being used but I understand that's a personal preference type thing...
what I really want is:
1. wireless charging - just set the phone somewhere in the car
2. wireless CarPlay
that would be much better than plugging in.
